For the second time in four days, Lower Merion sophomore Seiji Sako, playing in the 13-to-15 division, had the best score of the day to capture a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in a stop at Paxon Hollow Country Club Aug. 10th in Marple Township in the heart of Delaware County.
Sako, coming off an impressive win at Wilmington Country Club’s North Course three days earlier, carded a solid 3-over-par 74 over the classic Paxon Hollow layout.
He made birdies on the first, second and seventh holes on his way to an even-par 35 on Paxon Hollow’s outgoing nine. Sako added birdies at the 15th and 17th holes on the back nine and finished with seven pars overall on his scorecard.
Thomas Cronan of Penn Valley and Declan Conner of Swarthmore finished in a tie for second place in the 13-to-15 division, each landing on 5-over 76. Cronan’s steady round featured 14 pars with eight of them on Paxon Hollow’s incoming nine. Conner also had 14 pars on his card with eight of his pars coming on the outgoing nine at Paxon Hollow.
Grant Burkhart of Kennett Square took fourth place with a 78, William Forman of Wayne was fifth with an 80 and Luke LaScala of Wilmington, Del. and Quinn Gallagher of Bryn Mawr finished in a tie for sixth, each posting an 81.
William Shuford of Wayne and Ben Mayer of Garnet Valley ended up in a tie for eighth place, each recording an 84, and Noah Brand of Newtown Square and Ryan Kelly of Harleysville rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as they finished in a tie for 10th, each tallying an 87.
Jack Lairdieson of Newtown Square made birdies on the first and 16th holes and had 10 pars on his scorecard as he finished atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division with a 4-over 75.
Michael Dignazio, a Tower Hill School senior, and Jamie Ciesielka of Woolwich Township, N.J. finished two shots behind Lairdieson in a tie for second place in the 16-to-18 division, each registering a 77. Dignazio made birdies at the first, third and 11th holes and had eight pars on his card while Ciesielka had 12 pars on his card, seven of them on the front nine at Paxon Hollow.
Evan Gephart of Magnolia, Del. and Michael Reardon of Springfield ended up in a tie for fourth place, each landing on 79, Anthony Manzi of Aston was sixth with an 81, Sanuel Cottone of Wayne was seventh with an 83, and Jamie Stait of Bryn Mawr was eighth with an 84.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division were Noah Richardson of Malvern and Joseph Wannemer of Media as they finished in a tie for ninth place, each carding an 85.
The girls were limited to 13 holes as a drenching storm hit Paxon Hollow, but, as with the boys, the best score of the day emerged from the 13-to-15 division as Katherine Liu of Moorestown, N.J. had seven pars on her scorecard, with six of them on the outgoing nine, on her way to an 8-over 60.
It was the second straight Philly Junior Tour victory for Liu as she was a winner two days earlier with a sparkling 4-over 75 at Talamore Country Club.
Corinne McReynolds of Wayne continued her strong run of recent play as she made birdies on the second and 10th holes and had three pars on her card on her way to a 65 that left her five shots behind Liu in second place among the younger girls.
Maya Kuminka of Mickleton, N.J. rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she had two pars on her card to take third place with a 71.
Another member of Team Kuminka out of Mickleton, N.J., Carly Kuminka, had five pars on her scorecard as she earned a Philly Junior Tour victory with a 67 for 13 holes that topped the field in the 16-to-18 division.
Ava McCaughan of West Chester made birdies at the sixth and 11th holes and added a par on 10 as she finished a shot behind Carly Kuminka in second place with a 68.
Rounding out the field in the 16-to-18 division was Analise Capoli of Medford, N.J. as she opened her round with a par at the first hole on her way to a 78.
Rayan Shah of Newtown increased his win total for 2023 to 15 as he made a birdie on the 15th hole and had seven pars on his scorecard while besting the field of nine-holers with an even-par 36 on the incoming nine at Paxon Hollow.
It was Shah’s second win in as many days as he was coming off a Philly Junior Tour victory a day earlier at John F. Byrne Golf Club in Philadelphia.
Max Davis of Newtown Square had five pars on his card as he finished four shots behind Shah in second place with a 4-over 40. Henry Sokol of Villanova had six pars on his card as he ended up a shot behind Davis in third place with a 5-over 41.
Preston Minio of Lansdale took fourth place with a 43, Xunnan Dang, another Newtown Square entry, was fifth with a 45, William Quartermain of Bryn Mawr was sixth with a 47 and Ethan Meersman of Fort Washington was seventh with a 50.
Declan Mayo of Chadds Ford ended up in eighth place with a 51, Bryce Moyer of Bryn Mawr was ninth with a 52, Rebecca Santoso of Chester Springs was 10th with a 60 and Bruno Peri of Glen Mills rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division, finishing 11th with a 68.
