P. J. Foley of Northfield, N.J. put together a nearly flawless round of golf in matching par with a 72 at Medford Village Country Club in Medford, N.J., the low round of the day, as he finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Aug. 23rd.
Foley made a birdie at the fifth hole, had 16 pars on his scorecard and just one bogey in finishing three shots clear of Paul Reilly of West Creek, N.J. in the division.
Reilly made back-to-back birdies at the fourth and fifth holes, added a birdie at the finishing hole and had nine pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors among the younger guys with a 3-over 75.
Jackson Bodony of Stafford Township, N.J. made birdies at the third and 14th holes and had 10 pars on his card as he finished in third place in the 13-to-15 division with a 4-over 76.
Daniel Herzchel of Linwood, N.J. took fourth place with an 81, Patrick Hiltner, another Northfield, N.J. guy, was fifth with an 82, Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. was sixth with an 83 and James Bradley of Newtown and Judd Fletcher of Moorestown, N.J. shared seventh, each landing on 84.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division were Thomas Carpenter of Bristol and Ben Conner, another Linwood, N.J. entry, as they finished in a tie for ninth place, each posting an 85.
Ethan Legarda of Voorhees, N.J. continued his late-summer roll as he captured top honors in the 16-to-18 division with a 1-over 73, a score that was bettered only by Foley’s 72.
Legarda, coming off an impressive win in the Philly Junior Tour Championship at Chester Valley Golf Club nine days earlier, made birdies at the fifth and 10th holes and had 13 pars on his scorecard. Legarda grinded out eight straight pars to finish his round as he toured the incoming nine at Medford Village in 1-under 35.
Joshua Freeman of Middletown, Del. and Owen Tisner of Dresher finished in a tie for second place as each registered a 4-over 76 to end up three shots behind Legarda.
Freeman’s steady round featured 14 pars while Tisner made birdies at the 12th and 17th holes and had 10 pars on his card.
Luke Tappeiner of Northfield, N.J. took fourth place with a 77, Owen Doyle of Galloway, N.J. was fifth with a 78, Brian Cotter of Cherry Hill, N.J. was sixth with a 79, Dominic Polistina of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. was seventh with an 80 and Campbell Swart of Southampton, N.J. was eighth with an 81.
Alex Henbest of Manahawkin, N.J. took ninth place with an 82 and Matthew Duphorn of Erial, N.J. rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 10th with an 83.
Annalise Capoli, playing not far from her Medford, N.J. home, had the best score of the day among the girls, claiming a Philly Junior Tour victory as the lone entry in the 16-to-18 division with a 97. Capoli made a par on the 14th hole.
Amita Oberoi of Cherry Hill, N.J. and Masey Heenan of Ocean City, N.J. were the only two competitors in the 13-to-15 division and shared the top spot as each recorded a 104. Heenan had three pars on her scorecard.
It was another strong showing among the nine-holers by Rithvik Nimma of Newtown as he had seven pars on his scorecard to finish at the top of the leaderboard with a 2-over 38. Nimma had taken the top spot in the coed 12-and-under division with an even-par 36 a week earlier at Raven’s Claw Golf Club.
Jack Metroka of Meadowbrook opened his round with a birdie at the first hole and had five pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Nimma in second place with a 3-over 39.
Lucas Solano of Vineland, N.J. made a birdie on the eighth hole and had three pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Metroka in third place with a 40.
Rayan Shah of Newtown has dominated a very, very competitive coed 12-and-under division and he finished a shot behind Solano in fourth place with a 41.
Ethan Meersman of Fort Washington, Ben Meixell of Wilmington, Del. and Jack Sokol of Villanova finished in a tie for fifth place, each tallying a 42.
Jack Sokol got low-Sokol honors as twin brother Henry Sokol and William Quartermain of Bryn Mawr shared eighth place, each carding a 43.
It’s a testament to how closely matched these players are that only five shots separated the top nine finishers from Nimma’s 38 to the 43s posted by Henry Sokol and Quartermain.
Rounding out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division was Jacob Russell of Wilmington, Del. as he finished alone in 10th place with a 45. That’s 10 players at 45 or better at Medford Village, a really strong showing for the young kids.
