Recent Wilson graduate Evan Jozwiak lit up Berkshire Country Club in Reading for six birdies as he captured a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory with a 2-under-par 69 that was easily the best in the 16-to-18 division July 31st.
Jozwiak, the Berks County individual champion as a junior in the fall of 2021, made birdies at the first, fourth, seventh, 12th, 13th and 18th holes and had eight pars on his scorecard in getting it in under par.
Jozwiak, who, my “source” in the Stonewall caddyshack tells me, will join the program at West Chester later this month, toured the outgoing nine at Berkshire in 2-under 33.
West Chester Rustin junior Nick Linkchorst and Austin Zweizig of Mohrsville shared third place as each carded a 9-over 80.
Linkchorst made a birdie at the eighth hole and had nine pars on his scorecard while Zweizig made birdies at the seventh, eighth and 10th holes and six pars on his card.
Brady Gallagher of Quakertown took fourth place with an 83 and the trio of Will Shannon of Wayne, Gavin Siravo of Wyomissing and Charlie Mertz of Reading shared fifth, each recording an 87.
Brandon Corrigan of Warrington took eighth place with a 95, James Gates of Ardmore was ninth with a 99, Colin Odum of Collegeville was 10th with a 105 and Joben Gill of Lansdale rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished in 11th place with a 111.
Colby Komancheck of Royersford had a steady round as he had 12 pars on his scorecard on his way to a 6-over 77 that gave him a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division.
Liam Crowley of Wayne made birdies at the second and the eighth holes and had 10 pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Komancheck in second place with a 78.
Luke Fallon of Reading made back-to-back birdies on the seventh and eighth holes, added a third birdie at 18 and had seven pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Crowley in third place with a 79.
Timothy Burns and Declan Conner of Swarthmore finished in a tie for fourth place, each posting an 80, and Yaejoon Wee of Chesterbrook and Trey Barkman of West Chester shared sixth as each registered an 83.
James Bradley of Newtown took eighth place with an 84 and Christopher Mark Parrish of Woolwich Township, N.J. finished ninth with an 85.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division were Evan Walters V of Emmaus and Gregory Kriz of Oreland as they finished in a tie for 10th place, each carding an 86.
Henry Sokol of Villanova made a birdie at the fifth hole and had four pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 6-over 42.
Taimoor Naseem of Sinking Spring had three pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with a 44.
Xunnnan Dang of Newtown Square and Jack Sokol, another member of Villanova’s Team Sokol, finished two shots behind Naseem in a tie for third place, each recording a 46. Dang came on strong with pars on his last four holes. Jack Sokol had three pars on his card.
It’s been a strong summer for the Sokol boys as they have appeared regularly on the coed 12-and-under division leaderboards, often at or near the top.
A couple of Malvern entries, Vidushi Gupta and Jake Julian, accounted for the next two respective spots in the standings with Gupta taking fifth with a 47 and Julian ending up sixth with a 48.
Lucas Shank of West Chester took seventh place with a 49, Connor Michaels of Lancaster was eighth with a 57 and Noah Gates of Ardmore’s Team Gates rounded out the scoring in the coed 12-and-under division as he finished ninth with a 61.
