Radnor senior Shaun Mazzalupi always seems to be playing his best golf when the scholastic postseason arrives in the fall.
Mazzalupi’s victory at Tanglewood Manor Golf Club in Quarryville, Lancaster County July 25th was only his second on the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour this season, but he has been a fixture on the leaderboards on the Philly Junior Tour and elsewhere all summer.
Mazzalupi, it appears, is ready to make a run at becoming a three-time qualifier for the PIAA Class AAA Championship.
Mazzalupi made birdies on the sixth, 12th and 15th holes and had 12 pars on his scorecard on his way to a solid even-par 72 that gave him a five-shot victory in the 16-to-18 division at Tanglewood Manor.
Drew Clark of Kennett Square made a birdie on the 12th hole and had 11 pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with a 5-over 77.
Noah Richardson of Malvern and Joseph Fargnoli of Mickleton, N.J. shared third place, each posting an 81. Richardson made a birdie on the sixth hole and had nine pars on his card while Joseph Fargnoli had 10 pars on his card.
Brandon Carrigan of Warrington took fifth place with an 87, Colin Odum of Collegeville was sixth with a 93 and Caden Quinn of Haddonfield, N.J. rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished seventh with a 97.
Brendan Schott of Wilmington, Del. made a birdie at the fifth hole, made back-to-back birdies at 10 and 11 and had seven pars on his card as he earned a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division with an 8-over 80.
Cameron Werder of Lititz made birdies on the second and 10th holes and had three pars on his card as he finished in second place with an 83.
Nicholas Fargnoli, another member of Team Fargnoli out of Mickleton, N.J., and Luke Daniels of Devon ended up in a tie for third place, each recording an 87. Both Nicholas Fargnoli and Daniels had five pars on his scorecard.
Carter Appleby, another Lititz entry, took fifth place with an 88 and Kie Shaw, another Wilmington, Del. representative, was sixth.
Max Miller of Hershey took seventh place with a 91, Caidan Jordan of Rising Sun, Md. was eighth with a 92 and Braydon Dolan of Springfield rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as he finished in ninth place with a 107.
Only two girls teed it up at Tanglewood Manor, but it turned to be a tight battle in the 16-to-18 division between Brooke Graham of Carlisle and Rachel Schuda of Downingtown.
Graham, who capped an outstanding scholastic career at Boiling Springs by finishing in fifth place in the PIAA Class AA Championship last fall, captured the Philly Junior Tour victory with an 87. Graham, who will join the program at Kutztown later this month, had nine pars on her scorecard, including a run of five in a row from the third through the seventh holes.
Schuda, a junior at Downingtown West, had seven pars on her card as she finished two shots behind Graham in second place with an 89.
