Pierce Murphy of Ardmore put together a solid 6-over-par 77 at Talamore Country Club in Ambler to finish atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division and earn a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory Aug. 8th.
Murphy’s 77 was matched by Thomas Carpenter of Bristol and Jackson Lane of Cinnaminson, N.J. for the low score of the day among the guys as they shared top honors in the 13-to-15 division.
Murphy made birdies at the 15th and 18th holes and had eight pars on his scorecard as the par-71 Talamore layout proved to be a tough challenge for the Philly Junior Tour players.
Zach Shragher of Jamison made a birdie at the ninth hole, eagled the par-5 18th and had three pars on his card as he finished in second place in the 16-to-18 division with an 86.
James Gates of Ardmore, Charlie Keidel of Phoenixville and James Castronuovo of Maple Glen finished in a tie for third place among the older guys, each posting a 91.
Gates made a birdie on the eighth hole and had four pars on his card and Keidel and Castronuovo each finished with four pars on his card.
Orville Potts of Elkton, Md. took sixth place with a 103 and Warren Jake Readinger rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished seventh with a 121.
Carpenter had 12 pars on his scorecard, including eight straight from the 10th through the 17th holes, and Lane, an eighth-grader at Cinnaminson Middle School, made a birdie at the 17th hole and had 11 pars on his card as they each earned a Philly Junior Tour victory by sharing first place in the 13-to-15 division with their 6-over 77s.
Judd Fletcher of Moorestown, N.J. finished with a birdie at the 18th hole and had seven pars on his card as he took third place with an 83.
Winston Chew of Exton took fourth place with an 87, Rauden Clarke of Radnor was fifth with a 90 and Braydon Jakatt of Coatesville and Andrew Rankin of Bala Cynwyd shared sixth, each registering a 92.
Justin Delfidio, playing close to his Ambler home, took eighth place with a 95, Grayson Levy of New Hope was ninth with a 96, Jason Romano of Norristown was 10th with a 105 and Gavin Schraegle of Phoenixville rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as he finished 11th with a 110.
The best overall score of the day was turned in by Katherine Liu of Moorestown, N.J. as she claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory in the girls 13-to-15 division with a solid 4-over 75.
Katherine Liu is a Philly Junior Tour success story. She has worked her way up the ranks from the nine-holers, getting better and better along the way.
Now Katherine Liu capable of putting together a round like the one she had at Talamore as she made birdies on the 10th, 13th and 18th holes and had nine pars on scorecard with seven of them coming on the front side.
Corinne McReynolds of Wayne saw her Philly Junior Tour winning streak snapped at three, but she made four pars on her way to earning runnerup honors with a 92.
Another member of Team Liu out of Moorestown, N.J., Emma Liu, made a birdie on the ninth hole and had five pars on her card as she took third place with a 95.
Rounding out the field in the 13-to-15 division was Daria Yohe of Willow Grove as she finished in fourth place with a 110.
Samuel Karas of Blue Bell made a birdie on the third hole and had two pars on his scorecard as he bested a competitive group of nine-holers with a 5-over 40.
Ethan Meersman of Fort Washington and Adam Revness of Yardley shared runnerup honors as the each carded a 6-over 41. Meersman made a birdie at the third hole and had four pars on his card and Revness matched Meersman’s birdie at three, added another birdie at nine and had two pars on his card.
Richard Davoli, playing close to his Ambler home, and Grant Cooper of Erdenheim finished in a tie for fourth place, each recording a 43, and Gavin Lane, another member of Team Lane out of Cinnaminson, N.J., and Rayan Shah of Newtown ended up in a tie for sixth place, each posting a 44.
Gavin Lane is a year behind his brother Jackson and is a seventh-grader at Cinnaminson Middle School. Shah has been one of the top players in the coed 12-and-under division throughout the 2023 season.
Michael Lee of Center Valley took eighth place with a 45 and Ryan Dungan of Warrington was ninth with a 45.
Bobby Stefanski of Newtown Square and Gabrielle Kim, another entry playing close to her Ambler home, rounded out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division as they finished in a tie for 10th place, each carding a 47.
