Archbishop Carroll seniors Matthew Hurchalla of Wallingford and Jake Johnson of Wayne had a 1-2 finish in the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Royal Manchester Golf Links in Mt. Wolf, York County, Aug. 17th.
Hurchalla had the best round of the day, a solid 1-over 73, as he made birdies at the fifth, ninth, 11th and 16th holes and had 10 pars on his scorecard. Hurchalla toured the outgoing nine at Royal Manchester in even-par 36.
Johnson had 11 pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with an 80.
Rounding out a short field in the 16-to-18 division was Ryan Marsh of Coatesville as he made pars on the fourth and sixth holes on his way to a 105 that left him in third place.
Lawson Leeper, a sophomore at Dover, made birdies at the fourth and ninth holes and had nine pars on his scorecard as he earned a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division with a 5-over 77. Like Hurchalla, Leeper got around the front nine at Royal Manchester in even-par 36.
Winston Chew of Exton made a birdie on the second hole and had eight pars on his card as he finished in second place among the younger guys with an 83. Jackson Shearer of Harrisburg had six pars on his card as he took third place with an 87.
Rounding out the field in the 13-to-15 division was Neil Ray of West Chester as he finished in fourth place with a 101.
Brooke Graham, who capped an outstanding scholastic career by finishing in fifth place in the PIAA Class AA Championship as a senior at Boiling Spring last fall, was the only player to tee it up in the girls divisions at Royal Manchester and claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division with a solid 2-over 74.
Graham, who is joining the program at Kutztown, made a birdie on the second hole and had 15 pars on her scorecard, including a run of 11 straight from the fifth through the 15th holes. Like Hurchalla and Leeper, Graham turned in an even-par 36 on the front nine at Royal Manchester.
Henry Sokol of Villanova, who has been a presence on the coed 12-and-under leaderboards all summer, bested the field of nine-holers at Royal Manchester as made a birdie on the third hole and had five pars on his scorecard on his way to a 4-over 40.
Taimoor Naseem of Sinking Spring finished his round with a birdie at the ninth hole and had four pars on his card as he ended up a shot behind Sokol in second place with a 5-over 41.
Rounding out a short field in the coed 12-and-under division was Raegan Young of Middletown finishing in third place with a 53.
