William Quartermain of Bryn Mawr carded a solid 3-over-par 38 at the challenging Phoenixville Country Club to cruise to an easy victory in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour Nine-Hole Series event July 24th.
It would prove to be a preview of things to come as Quartermain, a product of the junior program at Llanerch Country Club, would claim the coed 12-and-under division Philly Junior Tour Championship at McCall Golf & Country Club three days later. There will be a separate post on that event.
The nine-holers are the focus of the Nine-Hole Series events, but there were a few other players who took the opportunity to compete over nine holes. Another draw might have been the location as Phoenixville might be the best nine-hole layout in the region.
Quartermain made a birdie on the ninth hole and had four pars on his scorecard to best the field of nine-holers at Phoenixville. Quartermain toured the last six holes in even-par.
Quartermain was the only player who solved the Phoenixville layout to any great extent.
The runnerup in the coed 12-and-under division was Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg as he finished 11 shots behind Quartermain with a 49. Thomas’ round was highlighted by a par at the eighth hole.
Logan Turner of Berwyn made a par on the ninth hole as he finished a shot behind Thomas in third place with a 50.
Bobby Stefanski of Newtown Square took fourth place with a 51, Joe McDonald of Bryn Mawr and Gray Biborosch of Berwyn shared fifth, each landing on 52, Vidushi Gupta of Malvern was seventh with a 54 and Joseph Aronson of Souderton was eighth with a 55.
Owen Ciesielka of West Chester took ninth place with a 56 and Pratik Fernandes of Radnor rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division as he finished in 10th place with a 61.
Luke Farnese of Lafayette Hill was the lone entry in the 16-to-18 division and he had a par on the ninth hole on his way to a 44.
Luke Fediukov of Downingtown had the second-best score of the day as he finished atop the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with a 43. Fediukov had four pars on his scorecard.
Noah Brand of Newtown Square started strong with four pars on the first four holes on his way to a 44 that left him a shot behind Fediukov in second place.
Walker Mannon of Phoenixville followed up a par on the fourth hole with a birdie at five as he took third place with a 49.
Two other Phoenixville entries rounded the field in the 13-to-15 division as John Thompson took fourth place with a 51 and Ben Michel finished fifth with a 55.
Another member of Radnor’s Team Fernandes, Anika Fernandes, was the only girl to tee it up at Phoenixville in the 13-to-15 division and recorded a 66.
