Downingtown West sophomore Ian Larsen and Conestoga junior Chris Sung each carded a solid 1-over-par 72 at the RiverCrest Golf Club & Preserve in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County to share the top spot in the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop July 22nd.
Larsen made birdies at the first, ninth and 11th holes and had 12 pars on his scorecard, finishing up his round with six straight pars. Sung made birdies at the second and 16th holes and had 13 pars on his card, including a run of 11 pars in a row from the fifth through the 15th holes.
Alex Hall, a junior on the Perkiomen Valley golf team, and Kasim Narinesingh-Smith, a recent Kennett graduate, finished in a tie for third place as each ended up a shot behind Larsen and Sung with a 2-over 73.
Hall, who has been putting together a solid summer of golf on the Philly Junior Tour, made birdies at the fourth and eighth holes and had 13 pars on his card. Hall toured the outgoing nine at RiverCrest in 2-under 34.
Narinesingh-Smith, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier in each of his last two seasons at Kennett, made birdies at the second, fourth and 10th holes and had 11 pars on his card. Like Hall, Narinesingh-Smith went out in 2-under 34 on RiverCrest’s front side.
William Shuford of Wayne, Christopher Mark Parrish of Woolwich Township, N.J. and Conestoga senior Gavin Dirkes, a co-medalist in last fall’s Central League Championship at Turtle Creek Golf Course, finished in a tie for fifth place, each signing for a 75.
Will Krietsch of Newtown Square took eighth place with a 76, Boyertown senior Chase Dillman was ninth with a 77 and Michael DiDomenico of Devon rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 10th with a 78.
Pretty competitive division of older guys as only six shots separated first place from 10th.
A couple of Harleysville guys, Cole Henning, a sophomore on the Souderton golf team, and Ryan Kelly landed in a tie atop the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division as each recorded a 5-over 76.
Henning made birdies on the third and 11th holes and had 10 pars on his scorecard while Kelly made birdies on the fifth and 16th holes and had 10 pars on his card.
Henry Sokol of Villanova made birdies on the first, sixth and eighth holes and had six pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Henning and Kelly in third place with a 6-over 77. The three birdies on the outgoing nine at RiverCrest enabled Sokol to go out in 1-under 35.
Frank Kunze of Garnet Valley took fourth place with a 78 and Jack Luterman, an Ardmore resident and a sophomore at The Haverford School, and Connor Smolenski of West Chester finished in a tie for fifth place, each tallying a 79.
Luke Wilmoth of Dresher took seventh place with an 80 and Quinn Gallagher of Bryn Mawr and Colin Burke of Wilmington, Del. shared eighth, each landing on 81.
The trio of Chase Andrews of Harleysville, Danny Curran of Malvern and Luka Fediukov of Downingtown rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as they finished in a tie for 10th place each registering an 82.
Much like the 16-to-18 group, only six shots separated first place from 10th in a very competitive 13-to-15 age group.
The best score among the girls emerged from the 13-to-15 division as Emily Maurer of Mount Laurel, N.J. made back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes and had seven birdies on her scorecard as she topped the field of younger girls with an 8-over 79.
Perkiomen Valley sophomore Saloni Patel was right behind Maurer as Patel made a birdie on the fifth hole and had nine pars on her card to earn runnerup honors with a solid 81.
Sara Fanelli of Villanova had three pars on her card as she finished in third place with a 92.
Gabrielle Kim of Ambler took fourth place with a 94, Alexa Shure of Malvern was fifth with a 98 and Kirsten Weiss of Oreland rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished sixth with a 111.
Brynne Mushlin, a recent Conestoga graduate, made a birdie on the fourth hole and had eight pars on her scorecard as she claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division with an 86. Mushlin helped the Pioneers capture the District One Class AAA team crown last fall.
Fortress Chryst of Wescosville made pars at the fifth and ninth holes to earn runnerup honors with a 100. Lilly Reagan of Philadelphia rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as she finished in third place with a 142.
Bobby Stefanski of Newtown Square made a birdie on the second hole and had four pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 4-over 40.
Steven Musacchio of Glenmoore had five pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Stefanski in second place with a 41.
The trio of Grayson McCann of Downingtown, Samuel Karas of Blue Bell and Jack Kolmer of Wayne finished in a tie for third place, each landing on 43.
McCann had three pars on his card and Karas had four pars on his card. Kolmer surged into the tie for third place with an eagle at the par-4 ninth hole to close out his round.
Connor Marsulis of Pottstown took sixth place with a 46, Carson McNamee of Harleysville was seventh with a 47 and Michael Perry of Wilmington, Del. and Jack Gilbert of Bryn Mawr finished in a tie for eighth, each signing for a 50.
Reed Starzecki of Bryn Mawr rounded out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division as he finished in 10th place with a 51.
