P.J. Foley of Northfield, N.J. had four birdies on his way to a solid 1-over-par 73 at Medford Village Country Club in Medford, N.J. to capture a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division Aug. 7th.
Medford Village had played host to Final Qualifying for the U.S. Amateur a couple of weeks earlier, so you know it’s a quality golf course.
Foley got off to a fast start with birdies at the first and fourth holes and went back-to-back with birdies at 14 and 15. Foley had nine pars on his scorecard with six of them on the outgoing nine at Medford Village, which he toured in 1-under 35.
A couple of guys playing close to their Medford, N.J. homes, Jackson Cogan and Connor Breen, finished second and third, respectively, behind Foley on the leaderboard for the 16-to-18 division.
Cogan made back-to-back birdies on the ninth and 10th holes and had 12 pars on his card as he finished two shots behind Foley in second place with a 3-over 75.
Breen made birdies on the third, fifth and 13th holes and had nine pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Cogan in third place with a 4-over 76.
Alex Henbest of Manahawkin, N.J. took fourth place with a 79 and the duo of Sebastian Furfaro of Mickleton, N.J. and Brian Cotter of Cherry Hill, N.J. finished in a tie for fifth place, each posting an 80.
The trio of Tyler Kulik of Mount Royal, N.J., Drake Brogan of Ocean View, N.J. and Noah Taylor of Columbus, N.J. ended up in a tie for seventh place as each tallied an 83.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division was Logan Hensel, another Mickleton, N.J. entry, as he finished alone in 10th place with an 84.
Jackson Lane of Cinnaminson, N.J. has been solid all summer on the Philly Junior Tour and he matched Foley’s 1-over 73 to claim the top spot in the 13-to-15 division.
Jackson Lane made birdies at the first, third, eighth and 16th holes and had 10 pars on his card to edge Trevor Sieben, playing close to his Medford, N.J. home, by a shot.
Sieben, the Player of the Year in the 13-to-15 division in 2023, had only one birdie at the eighth hole, but he had 15 pars on his card, opening his round with seven straight pars, as he registered a solid 2-over 74.
Thomas Carpenter of Bristol made birdies at the second and 13th holes and had 11 pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Sieben in third place with a 3-over 75.
Jaxon Piccoli of Berlin, N.J. took fourth place with a 77 and Thomas Weiler of Wilmington, Del. and Braydon Dolan of Springfield shared fifth, each signing for an 81.
The trio of Bradford Bergstrom of Moorestown, N.J., Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. and Henry Sokol of Villanova finished in a tie for seventh place, each recording an 82.
Henry Sokol had picked up wins at Kimberton Golf Club and at Woodstone Country Club & Lodge in the week leading up to the Philly Junior Tour stop at Medford Village.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division was Henry Sokol’s twin brother, Jack Sokol, as he finished alone in 10th place with an 85, three shots behind his brother in the battle for low-Sokol honors.
The best score among the girls came out of the 13-to-15 division as Madison Cabot of Newtown made a birdie at the 12th hole and had four pars on her scorecard on her way to an 88.
Masey Heenan of Ocean City, N.J. rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division as she also made a birdie at the 12th hole and had five pars on her card to finish five shots behind Cabot in second place with a 93.
Annalise Capoli, another player teeing it up close to her Medford, N.J. home, made a birdie on the 14th hole as she earned a Philly Junior Tour victory in the girls 16-to-18 division with a 94.
Emily M. Renouf of Cinnaminson, N.J. rounded out a short field in the 16-to-18 division as she had three pars on her scorecard to finish in second place with a 114.
Bobby Stefanski of Newtown Square continued his run of strong play this summer as he made a birdie on the second hole and had five pars on his scorecard to best the field of nine-holers with a 4-over 40.
Gavin Lane, the younger brother of 13-to-15 division winner Jackson Lane, had three pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with a 44. Both members of Team Lane out of Cinnaminson, N.J. have been playing solid golf this summer.
Emilie Davoli of Ambler made a birdie on the eighth hole and added a par at six as she finished in third place with a 50. Davoli is a Class of 2032 entry. That’s some pretty good playing for a 10-year-old kid.
Mallie Heenan, another member of Team Heenan out of Ocean City, N.J., took fourth place with a 51, Bradan Boal of Woodbine, N.J. was fifth with a 53 and Edmond Speitel of Haddonfield, N.J. rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division as he finished sixth with a 54.
