Winston Thai, who capped his scholastic career by earning a trip to the PIAA Class AA Championship as a senior at Lancaster Country Day School last fall, carded a solid 9-over-par 79 to claim a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division at Susquehanna Valley Country Club in Selinsgrove to kick off the Fourth of July weekend June 30th.
It was a short field that wrapped up a busy week on the Philly Junior Tour and Thai had nine pars on his scorecard, seven of them on Susquehanna Valley’s incoming nine, to grab a one-shot victory over Miles Wilson of Hershey among the older guys.
Wilson made a birdie on the 15th hole and had seven pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with an 80.
Talon D’Angelo of Mansfield made a birdie on the seventh hole and had three pars on his card as he finished in third place with a 90.
Rounding out the field in the 16-to-18 division was James Ciccarelli of Danville as he finished in fourth place with a 92.
Christopher Everly of Atglen had five pars on his scorecard, four of them on Susquehanna Valley’s incoming nine, as he finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with an 87.
Harrison Perry of Berwyn made pars on the sixth and 18th holes as he claimed runnerup honors with a 97.
Rounding out the field in the 13-to-15 division was Neil Ray of West Chester as he made a par on the 17th hole to take third place with a 100.
Hannah Kopac of State College was the only player to tee it up in the girls divisions and she made pars on the seventh and 14th holes on her way to a 102 that gave her a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division.
Logan Turner of Berwyn bested the field of nine-holers as he made a birdie on the seventh hole and had three pars on his scorecard on his way to a solid 7-over 42. Turner was coming off a runnerup finish in a Philly Junior Tour stop at Coatesville Country Club a day earlier.
Bryce Bussom of Lewisburg made a par on the fifth hole as he earned runnerup honors with a 46.
Raegan Young of Middletown took third place with a 57 and Ryan Englehart of Schwenksville rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division, finishing fourth with a 60.
