Tommy Marshall of Marlton, N.J. got it into red figures with a 1-under-par 71 to capture the top spot in the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Running Deer Golf Club in Pittsgrove, N.J. July 27th.
The stop at Running Deer was part of a two-day Junior Golf Scoreboard South Jersey Series with the next stop a day later at Ramblewood Country Club in Mt. Laurel Township, N.J. I’ll make that a separate post as I keep trying to get caught up on my Philly Junior Tour updates.
Marshall made birdies at the third, fifth, 15th and 17th holes and had 11 pars on his scorecard in besting the field of older guys over the par-72 Running Deer layout.
Ryan Heenan of West Deptford, N.J. made birdies on the sixth and 18th holes and had 12 pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with a 2-over 74.
Liam Shearn of Ardmore was a shot behind Heenan in third place with a 3-over 75 that included birdies on the seventh, 12th and 15th holes and 11 pars.
Justin Forman of Sewell, N.J. was another shot behind Shearn in fourth place with a 4-over 76.
Josh Emel of Wilmington, Del., Owen Doyle of Galloway, N.J., Sebastian Botero of Abington and Anant Jain of Swedesboro, N.J. finished in a four-way logjam for fifth place, each signing for a 78.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division were two players, Jeremiah Brown of Audubon and James DeRocini of West Deptford, N.J., tied for ninth place, each landing on 79.
Alec Thiele of Philadelphia made a birdie at the seventh hole and had 11 pars on his scorecard, including a run of six straight in the middle of his round from eight to 13, to claim a victory in the 13-to-15 division with a 5-over 77.
Matthew Duphorn of Erial, N.J. capped each nine with a birdie, one at the ninth hole and one at 18, and had nine pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with a 79.
Paul Reilly of West Creek, N.J. made a birdie on the 11th hole and had 10 pars on his card as he took third place with an 82.
Gavin Pychinka of Northampton, Ben Mayer of Garnet Valley and Jacob Gabbard of Lewes, Del. shared fourth place, each posting an 86.
Charlie Barrickman of West Chester took seventh place with a 90, Gabriel Abalos of Sewell, N.J. was eighth with a 91 and Sebastian Furfaro of Mickleton, N.J. was ninth with a 93.
Rounding out the field in the 13-to-15 division were three players tied for 10th place at 95, including Luke Daniels of Devon, Christopher Mark Parrish of Woolwich Township, N.J. and Anthony Manzi of Newtown Square.
The best score among the girls came out of the younger 13-to-15 division as Sarah Cohen of Lafayette Hill made birdies at the seventh and ninth holes and had eight pars on her scorecard in capturing a Philly Junior Tour win with an 8-over 80.
Ajuni Oberoi of Cherry Hill, N.J. was the runnerup to Cohen as she had six pars on her card on her way to an 85. Katherine Liu of Moorestown, N.J. made a birdie on the 17th hole and had seven pars on her card as she finished in third place with an 88.
Rounding out the field in the 13-to-15 division was Katherine Lee of Mt. Laurel, N.J. as she finished in fourth place with a 102.
Hannah Puc of Marlton, N.J. continued her strong play this summer as she had nine pars on her scorecard, including four straight to finish her round, as she carded an 83 to take top honors in the 16-to-18 division.
It was the sixth Philly Junior Tour win of the 2022 season for Puc, who has been especially tough on the courses on the South Jersey side of the Delaware River.
Jaiyin Ou of Pottstown had six pars on her card as she finished second with 88.
Rounding out the field in the 16-to-18 division was Sehyr Singh of Mount Laurel, N.J. as she made a birdie on the seventh hole and had a pair of pars on her way to a third-place finish with a 102.
Trebor Melendez of Vineland, N.J. bested the field of nine-holers with a solid 1-over 37 as he opened his round by making a birdie on the first hole and then rattling off five straight pars. He would finish with six pars on his scorecard overall.
Jackson Lane of Cinnaminson, N.J. and Judd Fletcher of Moorestown, N.J. shared runnerup honors, each finishing three shots behind Melendez with a 4-over 40. Jackson Lane and Fletcher each made a birdie at the seventh hole and had four pars on his card.
Lucas Solano, another Vineland, N.J. entry, took fourth place with a 42, Chloe Donohue of Moorestown, N.J. was fifth with a 43, Anthony Primo of Marlton, N.J. was sixth with a 44 and Gavin Lane, another member of Team Lane from Cinnaminson, N.J., was seventh with a 45.
Neil Ray of West Chester ended up in eighth place with a 50, Torrin Denton of Mullica Hill, N.J. was ninth with a 53 and Madison Cabot of Langhorne rounded out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division as she finished alone in 10th place with a 56.
