Strath Haven junior Tyler Debusschere tuned up for Monday’s Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour Championship by winning the 13-to-15 division with a sparkling 1-under-par 69 in a stop at Indian Spring Golf Course on a steamy Friday in Marlton, N.J.
Debusschere had a steady round as he made back-to-back birdies at the third and fourth holes and another at the closing hole. Debusschere had 13 pars on his scorecard, including eight straight pars on the first eight holes of the incoming nine at the 5,950-yard, par-70 Indian Spring layout.
Debusschere capped his sophomore season at Strath Haven by finishing in fourth place in the Central League Championship and leading the Panthers to the tournament team crown. The Central League Championship was held after the PIAA postseason was completed. The failure of the league to put together a District One qualifier in time denied the Central players the opportunity to compete in the PIAA postseason.
Ajeet Bagga of Blue Bell made birdies on the fourth, ninth, 11th and 15th holes and had 10 pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors among the younger guys with a solid 1-over 71.
Ethan Martin of North Wales and Tommy Marshall, playing not far from his Marlton, N.J. home, shared third place, each signing for a 75. Martin made birdies on the fifth, 12th and 15th holes and had seven pars on his scorecard. Marshall had birdies on the second and 18th holes and had 10 pars, including five straight from the 12th through the 16th holes.
Daniel Shin of Horsham took fifth place with a 77, Rex Opdahl of West Chester was sixth with an 80, Justin Forman of Sewel, N.J. was seventh with an 84, and Ethan Legarda of Voorhees, N.J. was eighth with an 84.
Riley Palomata of Westampton, N.J. finished in ninth place with an 85 and Kwanchi Loo of Cherry Hills, N.J. rounded out the top 10 as he ended up alone in 10th place with an 88.
Cardinal O’Hara junior Anthony Carson and Jack Orr of Medford, N.J. shared top honors in the 16-to-18 division, each registering a 7-over 77. Carson birdied the ninth hole and had 10 pars on his scorecard, including four straight pars to finish his round. Orr made birdies on the first and fourth holes and had seven pars on his card.
Lee Gerber of Evesham Township, N.J. birdied the 17th hole and had nine pars as he finished alone in third place with a 78, a shot behind the top two.
Stephen Cain of Yardley took fourth place with an 80, Matthew Adler of Medford, N.J. was fifth with an 87, Thomas DiGiulio of Sicklerville, N.J. was sixth with a 96 and Jackson Wolff of Malvern rounded out the 16-to-18 division field as he finished alone in seventh place with a 102.
Germantown Academy junior Serena Bagga of Blue Bell’s Team Bagga claimed a victory in the girls 16-to-18 division with an 80 that was highlighted by eight pars. Serena Bagga earned a spot in the field of the Bert Linton Inter-Ac League individual championship against the boys at Gulph Mills Golf Club as a freshman in 2019.
Grace Klements of Little Egg Harbor, N.J. had six pars, including three straight to finish her round, as she carded a 85 to earn runnerup honors. Suzie Ahn made a birdie at the first hole and had four pars, like Klements, finishing her round with three straight pars, as she registered an 89 to finish alone in third place.
Sophia Chesner of Moorestown, N.J. rounded out the 16-to-18 division field as she took fourth place with a 90.
Savannah Laverty of Moorestown, N.J. matched Serena Bagga’s 80 in a round that featured eight pars as she topped the field in the 13-to-15 division.
Yet another member of Blue Bell’s Team Bagga, Kiran Bagga, also had eight pars in claiming runnerup honors with a solid 82. Danielle Higbee of Mickleton, N.J. birdied the 10th hole and had seven pars on her scorecard as she finished alone in third place with an 84.
Hannah Puc of Marlton, N.J. took fourth place with an 88 and Ajuni Oberoi of Cherry Hill, N.J. and Ananda Leahy of Gladwyne shared fifth place, each posting a 94.
Sophia Blair of Williamstown, N.J. took seventh place with a 100 and Hannah Escritor of Voorhees, N.J. rounded out the 13-to-15 division field with a 103 that left her alone in eighth.
Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. birdied the seventh hole and had four pars as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 5-over 40. Katherine Liu of Moorestown, N.J. continued her strong run of play recently as she had four pars to earn runnerup honors with a 42.
Alex DiGiacinto of Nazareth had two pars as he carded a 44 to finish alone in third place.
Onyu Park of Blue Bell and Jackson Lane of Cinnaminson, N.J. each signed for a 46 to finish in a tie for fourth place and Gus Stoltzfus of Lincoln University ended up alone in sixth with a 49.
Rounding out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division were four players tied for seventh place at 50, including Elijah Hartono of Downingtown, Gavin Lane, another member of Team Lane of Cinnaminson, N.J., Benjamin Robbins of Holland and Judd Fletcher of Moorestown, N.J.
