Bulman right at home at Brookside as his 74 earns him a Junior Tour victory

Jack Bulman took advantage of a home game as he didn’t have far to go from his Pottstown home to get to Brookside Country Club, where he carded a solid 2-over-par 74 to claim a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division Monday.

Bulman birdied the sixth hole and had a consistent round with 14 pars, including five straight from seven through 11, in finishing three shots clear of the rest of the field of older guys.

Blake Stewart, who graduated from Pennridge earlier this year, and Owen Weisner of Reading shared second place in the 16-to-18 division as each landed on 5-over 77. Stewart made a birdie at the 11th hole and had 11 pars on his scorecard. Weisner made back-to-back birdies at the 10th and 11th holes and had 10 pars on his card.

Jaden Minter of Royersford finished a shot behind Stewart and Weisner in fourth place with a 78 and Kyle Langan of Shavertown was another two shots behind Minter in fifth with an 80.

Hill School junior Lucas Steinmetz of Gilbertsville was playing on his home high school course as Brookside is adjacent to The Hill and had an 81, which left him a tie for sixth place with Benjamin Galko of Roaring Brook. J.R. McMenamin, another Pottstown guy, was a shot behind Steinmetz and Galko in eighth place with an 82.

Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division were three players – Aaron Miller of Lehighton, Michael Fisher of Philadelphia ad Ryan Horenci of Collegeville – all of whom registered an 84 to finish in a tie for ninth place.

Manraj Grewal of Newtown posted the second-best score of the day among the guys, a 3-over 75 that gave him a victory in the 13-to-15 division. Grewal made birdies at the fourth, sixth and 11th holes and had nine pars on his scorecard.

Noah Wallace of Elkton, Md. was a par machine with 14 on his card, including five in a row to start his round and a run of eight more in a row from the eighth through the 15th holes, as he earned runnerup honors among the younger guys with a 4-over 76.

Shayne O’Doherty of Glenmoore and John Stevenson of Flourtown finished in a tie for third place, each landing on 79. O’Doherty eagled the par-5 sixth hole, made a birdie at 15 and had eight pars. Caddied for O’Doherty in a round with his dad at Stonewall this summer. The kid’s got some game. Stevenson had 13 pars on his scorecard.

Macade Knoblauch, another Pottstown guy playing close to home, finished alone in fifth place with an 80. Alec Thiele of Philadelphia and Mac Traynor of Villanova finished in a tie for sixth place, each signing for an 82.

Michael Henry of Wayne took eighth place with an 83. Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division were Matthew Caputo of Swarthmore and Kieran Spinelli of Malvern, both of whom carded an 85 to finish in a tie for ninth place.

North Penn junior Hayley Ekert made birdies at the 12th and 17th holes and had eight pars on her scorecard as she registered a solid 81 to claim a victory in the girls 16-to-18 division.

Keerthana Rajamohan of Limerick had five pars as she finished alone in second place with a 94. Heidi Wegscheider of Boyertown rounded out the field of older girls as she had three pars on her way to a 106 that left her in third place.

Ananda Leahy of Gladwyne was the only entry in the 13-to-15 division and had four pars, two on each of Brookside’s nines, as she signed for a 92.

Lawson Leeper of York, a fixture on the coed 12-and-under leaderboards, birdied the seventh hole and had six pars as he carded a 2-over 38 to best the field of nine-holers.

Anthony Proud of Stroudsburg and Ian Larsen of Glenmoore, another couple of guys who have regularly contended in the division this summer, shared second place, each landing on 3-over 39, a shot behind Leeper. Proud had six pars, including pars on his last four holes. Larsen had six pars on his scorecard. Quin Zeigner of New Hope took fourth place, finishing a shot behind Proud and Larsen with a 40.

Colby Komancheck of Royersford and Callahan Harrell of York finished in a tie for fifth place, each posting a 41. Harrell was coming off an impressive victory in the coed 12-and-under Philly Junior Tour Championship last week at Huntingdon Valley Country Club’s Colonial Nine.

Jason Mack of Delaware Water Gap took seventh place with a 43, Ethan Meersman of Fort Washington was eighth with a 45 and Declan Conner of Swarthmore was ninth with a 46.

Rounding out the top 10 were three players – Jack Steward of Wyncote, Eliza Meersman of Fort Washington’s Team Meersman, and Onyu Park of Blue Bell – all of whom registered a 48 to finish in a tie for 10th place.
