A couple of New Jersey Section PGA Junior Tour players took
the top prizes as they hooked up with the top players in the Philadelphia
Section PGA Junior Tour in the fourth annual Precision Pro Paul L. Bustard
Memorial Invitational Saturday at Old York Country Club in Chesterfield, N.J.
The event, named for a longtime Old York member whose family
wanted to honor his memory with a tournament involving the game he loved, was
scheduled to be a two-day, 36-hole affair, but was shortened to 18 holes by a
forecast for rainy weather for Sunday that proved to be accurate.
As with most Precision Pro events, there were overall ages
13-to-18 boys and girls champions and those titles went to Wiliam Celiberti of Ridgewood,
N.J. among the guys and Sun Hwang of Fort Lee, N.J. among the gals.
Celiberti had three birdies in a 2-over-par 73 over the
6,377-yard, par-71 Old York layout.
Logan Hess of Willow Street was the top finisher among the
Philly Junior Tour entries, carding a 4-over 75 to share second place overall
with Brandon Valvano of Franklin Lakes, N.J. and Derek Weaver of Hackettstown,
N.J. Weaver’s 75 made him the top finisher among the 13-to-15 entries.
Central Bucks East junior Patrick Sheehan, the runnerup in
the District One Class AAA Championship, carded a 5-over 76 to finish alone in
fourth in the 16-to-18 division and fifth overall.
Also in the 16-to-18 division Mac Bredahl of Bayonne, N.J.
finished fifth with a 78. Four players – Jack Sullivan of Petersburg, N.J.,
Alec Ryden, a Jersey guy from Moorestown, but a Philly Junior Tour regular, Richard
Kline III, a member of the Unionville team that claimed the PIAA Class AAA team
crown last week, and Matthew Law of Yardley – shared sixth place, each carding
a 79.
Rounding out the top 10 among the older guys was Trevor
Terpanick of Colonia, N.J. with an 80.
Spring Grove freshman Karl Frisk was an impressive winner of
a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour event at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort earlier this month,
but couldn’t quite earn a return trip to Heritage Hills for last week’s PIAA
Championship. Frisk posted a solid 78 that gave him runnerup honors among the
13-to-15 entries behind Weaver and a tie for sixth overall with Bredahl.
Also among the 13-to-15 entries, Garrett Kessler of North
Caldwell, N.J. finished third with a 79 and Maxwell Sorger of Montclair, N.J.
was fourth with an 80.
It was a big week for Unionville junior Connor Bennink, who
finished tied for fifth in the PIAA Class AAA Championship and came back to
play a key role in the Indians’ state team championship. Bennink capped his
week with an 81 Saturday that left him alone in fifth in the 13-to-15 division
and tied for 15th overall.
Jeffrey Li of Basking Ridge, N.J. and Edmund Broderick of
Bayonne, N.J. finished tied for sixth in the 13-to-15 division, each posting an
82. Eddie McGreevy, another member of a strong Bayonne contingent, Arav Patel
of East Brunswick, N.J. and Logan Paczewski of Dallas rounded out the top 10 as
they finished tied for eighth at 84.
Hwang had two birdies in an 8-over 79 that topped the field
on an Old York layout that measured 5,717 yards for the girls. Angela Lee of
Hillsdale, N.J. with an 81 and Katie Li of the Basking Ridge Lis with an 82
finished second and third overall, respectively, and were 1-2, respectively,
among the 13-to-15 entries.
Hartley Zook of Flemington, N.J. carded an 83 to finish as
the runnerup behind Hwang among the 16-to-18 entries and fourth overall.
Also among the 16-to-18 entries, Anna Bowman of Westfield,
N.J. was third with an 86, Savanna Haas of Pottstown was fourth with an 88,
Annika Johnson of Newton, N.J. was fifth with a 93, Christina Carroll of Bear,
Del. was sixth with a 97 and Lily Byrne of Downingtown was seventh with a 101.

Philly Junior Tour entries as her 86 enabled her to finish third behind Lee and
Li in the 13-to-15 division and get a share of fifth overall with Bowman.
Megan Meng of Pennington, N.J. and Kaia Wu of Princeton,
N.J. finished tied for fourth in the 13-to-15 division, each carding an 87.
