Luke Wilmoth, a junior on the Upper Dublin golf team, matched par with a 71 at Wilmington Country Club’s North Course on a steamy Monday to capture a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division.
Wilmoth made birdies at the second, eighth, 12th and 17th holes and had 10 pars on his scorecard to edge Bryce Ciochetto, a senior on the Haverford High golf team, by a shot over the par-71 Wilmington North layout just over the Pennsylvania line below Chester County.
Ciochetto got off to a strong start with birdies at the first and fifth holes, went back-to-back with birdies at 13 and 14 and had nine pars on his card.
A couple of former Ches-Mont League rivals, Rider Nicholl, who wrapped up his scholastic career at Avon Grove last fall, and Tre Lesperance, who wrapped up his scholastic career at Unionville last fall, finished in a tie for third place, each posting a 2-over 73.
Nicholl made birdies on the 12th and 18th holes and had 12 pars on his card, including seven straight pars to open his round. Lesperance, who will join the program at Lycoming later this summer, made back-to-back birdies at the eighth and ninth holes and had 12 pars on his card.
Michael Links of Swedesboro, N.J. took fifth place with a 3-over 74, Episcopal Academy senior Jimmy Warmkessel, a Malvern resident and one of the Churchmen’s co-captains last fall, was sixth with a 75 and Harry Traynor, a senior on the Great Valley golf team, finished seventh with a 77.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division was the trio of Colby Seislove, a senior on the Spring-Ford golf team, Bradford Bergstrom of Moorestown, N.J. and Quinn Marshall, a junior on the Wilmington Friends School golf team, as they finished in a tie for eighth place, each landing on 78.
Quinn Gallagher, a Bryn Mawr resident and a sophomore on The Haverford School’s Inter-Ac League championship team last fall, made birdies on the 10th and 14th holes and had 12 pars on his scorecard as he finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with a 2-over 73.
Frank Kunze, a sophomore on the Garnet Valley golf team, and Max Davis of Newtown Square finished two shots behind Gallagher in a tie for second place, each signing for a 4-over 75.
After making a birdie on the sixth hole, Kunze eagled the par-5 10th and had 11 pars on his card. Davis made birdies at the fifth and 18th holes and had 10 pars on his card.
Benjamin Lear of West Chester took fourth place with a 78, Daniel Ross of Harleysville and Torrin Denton of Mullica Hill, N.J. shared fifth place, each tallying a 79 and Brody Campbell of Plymouth Meeting and Jack Lobley of Gladwyne finished in a tie for seventh place, each recording an 80.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division were Owen Ciesielka, a West Chester resident and an incoming freshman at Malvern Prep, and Brooks McCall of Wilmington, Del. as they finished in a tie for ninth place, each registering an 81.
Kiran Bagga, a recent Germantown Academy graduate, was the lone entry in the girls 16-to-18 division and she made a birdie on the seventh hole and had five pars on her scorecard on her way to a solid 83.
Julia Griffin, a freshman on Episcopal Academy’s Inter-Ac League championship team in the spring and a Malvern resident, had four pars on her scorecard as she finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with a 93.
Emma Cowan of Moorestown, N.J. made a birdie on the 16th hole and had three pars on her card as she finished four shots behind Griffin in second place with a 97.
Abigail Olex, a Media resident and a junior on the Sacred Heart Academy golf team, rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished in third place with a 126.
Carter Bove of Kennett Square had six pars on his scorecard as he bested a typically competitive group of boys 12-and-under nine-holers with a 3-over 38.
Damien Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J. made a birdie on the fifth hole and had four pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Bove in second place with a 4-over 39.
Benjamin Adkins of Lewes, Del., Helmut Dang of Newtown Square and James Wilson of Wilmington, Del. finished in a tie for third place, each posting a 41.
Adkins made a birdie on the fifth hole and had two pars on his card and Dang and Wilson both had four pars on his card.
Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr took sixth place with a 42 and Aiden Jose of Brick, N.J. and Michael Perry of Wilmington, Del. shared seventh as each signed for a 43.
Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg took ninth place with a 44 and Bobby Stefanski of Newtown Square rounded out the top 10 in the boys 12-and-under division as he finished 10th with a 45.
Mia DeCarlo of Glen Mills got off to a great start with a birdie at the first hole and made pars at seven and nine as she earned a Philly Junior Tour victory in the girls 12-and-under division with a 45.
Aashi Chakraborty of Kennett Square rounded out a short field of girls 12-and-under nine-holers as she earned runnerup honors with a 59.
