With a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Pennsauken Country Club July 16th, the South Jersey youngsters were out in force and three of them, Logan Hensel of Mickleton, Ravi Gohel of Mount Laurel and Tyler Harris of Cinnaminson, shared the top spot in the 16-to-18 division, each carding a 4-over-par 74.
Hensel made birdies on the fifth, eighth and 12th holes and had nine pars on his scorecard. Gohel made a birdie on the sixth hole and had 12 pars on his card. Harris made birdies on the 10th and 16th holes and had 11 pars on his card, including a string of five straight pars from 11 through 15.
Justin Marcus, a senior on the Downingtown West golf team, took fourth place with a 76, the duo of Michael Baus of Woolwich, N.J. and Jack Ferm, a junior on the Garnet Valley golf team, shared fifth, each signing for a 77, and James Ciesielka of Woolwich Township, N.J. finished seventh with a 79.
A couple of Moorestown, N.J. guys, Bradford Bergstrom and Ben Duffy, shared eighth place, each posting an 82 and Vyom Shukla of Berwyn rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 10th with an 83.
Will Simonson of Haddonfield, N.J. made birdies on the third, eighth and 10th holes and had eight pars on his scorecard as he held off a trio of pursuers to finish at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with an 8-over 78.
David Padgett of Barnegat, N.J., Jason Leekley of Moorestown, N.J. and Jack Lobley of Gladwyne each finished a shot behind Simonson in a tie for second place with a 79.
Padgett made birdies at the 10th and 17th holes and had six pars on his card, Leekley made a birdie at three and had 10 pars on his card, seven of them on Pennsauken’s incoming nine, and Lobley made birdies at the 11th and 14th holes and had eight pars on his card.
Evan Hahn of Berlin, N.J. took fifth place with an 81, the pair of Jack Forstein of Moorestown, N.J. and Mason Chandler of Ambler shared sixth, each recording an 84, and the duo of Christopher Speitel of Haddonfield, N.J. and Anthony Beach of Westville, N.J. finished in a tie for eighth, each tallying an 87.
Conor Coughlin of Haddon Township, N.J. and Vaughn Smartt of Bryn Mawr rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as they finished in a tie for 10th place, each carding an 88.
Really strong showing for Archmere Academy senior Meredith Finger, a Wilmington, Del. resident, as she made a birdie on the 15th hole and had 12 pars on her scorecard to claim a Philly Junior Tour victory in the girls 16-to-18 division with a 4-over 74.
Finger capped a solid scholastic season in the spring by finishing in fourth place in the girls individual chase in the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association Championship (DIAA) at the St. Anne’s Golf Links in Middletown, Del.
Finger also helped an all-girl foursome of Auks roll to the Delaware team crown by 12 shots in a competition that included teams of boys and girls.
Megan Tyhanic of Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J. made birdies on the fourth and 14th holes and had 10 pars on her card as she finished four shots behind Finger in second place with a solid 7-over 78.
Nicole Tarquinio of Bridgeton, N.J. had five pars on her card as she finished in third place with an 84.
Emily Renouf of Cinnaminson, N.J. took fourth place with a 93 and the duo of Christine St. Pierre of Yardley and Masey Heenan of Ocean City, N.J. rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as they finished in a tie for fifth, each tallying a 94.
Melissa Cabot of Newtown made a birdie on the 15th hole and had eight pars on her scorecard as she finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with an 82.
Mallie Heenan, another member of Team Heenan out of Ocean City, N.J., made pars on the second and fourth holes as she earned runnerup honors with a 97.
Emma Cowan of Moorestown, N.J. had three pars on her card as she finished in third place with a 103.
Sonia Rosenman, another Moorestown girl, took fourth place with a 104 and Rogan Knapp of Williamstown, N.J. rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished fifth with a 161.
Jack Gilbert of Bryn Mawr made a birdie on the eighth hole and five pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of boys 12-and-under nine-holers with a 4-over 39.
Damien Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J. had five pars on his card, finishing his round with four straight pars, as he ended up a shot behind Gilbert in second place with a 5-over 40.
Baylor Keim of Blue Bell and Smith Rawes of Elkins Park finished in a tie for third place, each landing on 42.
Keim had five pars on his card, opening his round with four pars in a row. Rawes opened his round with a birdie at the first hole and had two pars on his card.
Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. took fifth place with a 44, Grant Cooper of Erdenheim was sixth with a 45, Samuel Karas of Blue Bell was seventh with a 46 and Jackson Jones of Bryn Mawr was eighth with a 49.
Dillon Tierney of Marlton, N.J. rounded out the field in the boys 12-and-under division as he finished in ninth place with a 50.
