Brogan's road trip from Ocean View results in a Philly Junior Tour victory at Bellewood

Drake Brogan took a road trip July 15th to Bellewood Country Club in North Coventry Township just across the Schuylkill River from Pottstown for a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop and took a first-place medal back home to Ocean View, N.J.

Brogan finished his round with a birdie at the 18th hole and was steady the rest of the way with 15 pars on his scorecard, including seven straight pars to open his round, as he claimed a victory in the 16-to-18 division with a 1-over-par 72.

Brody Calle, a senior on the Owen J. Roberts golf team, and Chase Dillman, who wrapped up his scholastic career at Boyertown by earning a trip to the PIAA Class AAA Championship last fall, finished in a tie for second place, each ending up a shot behind Brogan with a 2-over 73.

Calle made birdies at the fourth, seventh and 15th holes and had 10 pars on his card. Dillman made a birdie at the fifth hole, went back-to-back with birdies at eight and nine and had 11 pars on his card.

Charlie Isler, a junior on the West Chester Henderson golf team, took fourth place with a 4-over 75, Jimmy Warmkessel, a Malvern resident and a senior on the Episcopal Academy golf team, was fifth with a 76 and Pierce Drake, a junior on the Bishop Shanahan golf team out of Glenmoore, finished sixth with a 78.

James Sias, a senior on the Boiling Springs golf team, and Justin Gatti of West Chester shared seventh place, each signing for a 79, Jonathan Dilliplane, a senior on the Father Judge golf team from Philadelphia, was ninth with an 80 and Joey Bilotta, a senior on the Boyertown golf team, rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 10th with an 81.

Speaking of road trips, Bryce Bussom, a talented 13-year-old, came all the way from Lewisburg to finish at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with a solid 5-over 76.

Bussom opened his round with back-to-back birdies at the first and second holes, finished up with a birdie at 18 and had seven pars on his scorecard in between.

Quinten Joiner of Millington, Md. made birdies on the fifth and 18th holes as he earned runnerup honors with a 79.

Alex DiGiacinto, a sophomore on the Nazareth golf team, Max Berish, a junior on the Owen J. Roberts golf team, and Gavin Lane of Cinnaminson, N.J. finished in a tie for third place, each posting an 80.

DiGiacinto made birdies on the second and 18th holes and had eight pars on his card, including a string of four pars in a row from 12 through 15, Berish made birdies on the second and seventh holes and had seven pars on his card and Lane had 10 pars on his card.

Justin Stickel, a sophomore on the Council Rock South golf team, and Nicholas Milone of Bryn Mawr shared sixth place, each recording an 81 and the trio of Bret Wade of Pottstown, Mason Kim of Blue Bell and Gavin Schraegle of Phoenixville rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as each registered an 82 to finish in a tie for eighth.

The best score among the girls emerged from the 13-to-15 division as Lila Collingwood of Collegeville had four pars on her scorecard, three of them on Bellewood’s outgoing nine, as she claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory with a 94.

Addison Murphy of Phoenixville made a birdie on the 15th hole and had three pars on her card as she finished a shot behind Collingwood in second place with a 95.

Sarah Lester-Stranick of Lewes, Del. was the lone entrant in the 16-to-18 division and she had three pars on her scorecard on her way to a 103.

A couple of Newtown Square guys, Helmut Dang and Bobby Stefanski, finished 1-2, respectively, in a typically competitive field of boys 12-and-under nine-holers.

Dang had seven pars on his scorecard, opening his round with pars on the first six holes on Bellewood’s incoming nine from 10 through the 15 as he bested the field with a 2-over 37.

Stefanski finished up with a birdie at the 18th hole and had five pars on his card, all in a row from 11 through 15, as he finished a shot behind Dang in second place with a 3-over 38.
