In the Elite Tour events, all the boys compete in one 13-to-18 age group and Bradbeer’s total was matched by Conestoga senior Andrew Willner, who was the PIAA Class AAA runnerup last fall. Maloomian, Urban dominate in Delaware

The Philadelphia PGA Junior Tour was at three courses in Delaware for its Dover Series presented by Oakley and while not many Delco juniors trekked down to the First State, Brock Maloomian of Lewes, Del. and Andrew Urban V of Berlin, Md., claimed overall series victories.
Competing in the 13-to-15 division, Maloomian opened the series by taking his age group with a 1-over 72 at Maple Dale Country Club in Dover, finished in a tie for third with a 4-over 76 at Wild Quail Golf and Country Club and then topped the field with a 3-over 75 at Garrisons Lake Golf Club in Smyrna, Del.

Stasi wins Philadelphia Women's Amateur an eighth time

Meghan Stasi once dominated the Women’s Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Amateur Championship, winning the Glenna Collett Vare Cup seven straight times from 1999 to 2005.
Stasi went on to bigger and better things, including winning four U.S. Women’s  Mid-Amateur championships, but this week she was back looking for an eighth Philadelphia Women’s Amateur title at Wilmington Country Club’s South Course.
And Friday she got it, outlasting defending champion Emily Gimpel, 2 and 1, in a scheduled 36-hole final. Gimpel is a recent University of Maryland graduate and was a scholastic standout at Mount St. Joseph.
Stasi, the former Meghan Bolger, has coached at the University of Mississippi, briefly flirted with a professional career, and, from what I can gather from the Internet, helps out her husband Danny at his restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Not sure if that puts her in the class restauranteur-wise with the late, great Helen Sigel Wilson, but she is gaining on the legendary Philadelphia Country Club player’s total of 14 Philadelphia Women’s Amateur titles.
Stasi had to fight off another collegian in the semifinals as she edged James Madison junior Kelsey Sloan, 1-up, with a birdie on the 18th hole. Gimpel defeated Kerry Rutan of Philadelphia Cricket Club, 4 and 3, in the other semifinal.
Merion Golf Club’s Catherine Elliott, a former Notre Dame and University of Pennsylvania standout, qualified for match play and fell to Pamela Brown, 1-up, in the opening round of matches.
Merion’s Liz Haines, winner of this championship in 1985 and 1994, also qualified for match play. She knocked off Angie Coleman, 2 and 1, before falling to Rutan, 6 and 4, in the second round.

Walker falls short at Junior PGA Championship qualifier

The Philadelphia PGA Junior Tour held its qualifier for the Junior PGA Championship Monday at North Hills Country Club and the girls division looked very much like the PIAA Class AAA Tournament last fall.
Jackie Rogowicz, a two-time PIAA runnerup, had rounds of 74 and 71 over the par-71 North Hills layout for a 3-over 145 total that earned her a trip to Miramont C.C. in Bryan, Texas July 29 to Aug. 1 for the Junior PGA Championship presented by Under Armour and Genesis Networks.
Rogowicz, a senior at Pennsbury, finished two shots clear of reigning PIAA champion Isabella DiLisio, a senior at Mount St. Joseph who had rounds of 73 and 74 for a 147 total.
Radnor All-Delco Brynn Walker, a junior who finished in a tie fifth at last fall’s PIAA Tournament, was another shot back of DiLisio with rounds of 73 and 75 for a 148 total.
All the boys and girls in the field were in the hunt for just the one qualifying berth to the national junior PGA event, but the Philly Junior Tour did break out its usual age groups and Agnes Irwin freshman Kaitlyn Lees dominated the 13-to-15 division with rounds of 82 and 78 for a 160 total. That left her in seventh place overall.
Radnor sophomore Gabby Kim (87-84) finished third at 171 and Chichester sophomore Caprian Kan (88-91) was fourth at 179. That left them tied for 13th and 20th overall, respectively.
Other Delco finishers included Garnet Valley senior Annika Vandayar (85-78—163, eighth), recent Springfield graduate Samantha Miller (92-95—187, 26th) and Rada Ilieva (98-104—202, tied for 32nd), another recent Springfield graduate.
Another one of District One’s top players, Pennsbury senior Vinay Ramesh, claimed the boys’ ticket to the Junior PGA Championship with rounds of 71 and 72 for a 1-over 143 total. Blaine Lafferty of Marlton, N.J. was the runnerup with rounds of 72 and 74 for a 146 total.
As was the case with the girls, most of Delco’s stronger entries were in the 13-to-15 age group. Nick Miller (79-78—157) of Newtown Square was third, Jacob Liberman (82-85—167) of Radnor and Jake Calamaro (82-85—167) of Newtown Square were tied for 11th and Matthew Davis (84-86—170) of Newtown Square was tied for 15th. Miller was 14th overall, Liberman and Calamaro were tied for 35th overall and Davis was tied for 41st overall.

Kim second at Hershey

A Philadelphia PGA Junior Elite Tour event scheduled to be a two-day affair at Hershey Country Club’s East Course was shortened to one day as Tuesday’s violent storms left the George Fazio-designed course unplayable Wednesday.
In the Elite Tour events all the boys and girls complete in just a 13-to-18 division. Radnor sophomore Gabby Kim fired an 80 over the 5,753-yard, par-71 Hershey East layout to finish second among the girls. Esther Park, the Wilmington, Del. player who is a familiar rival of Kim’s, took top honors, edging Kim by a shot with her 79.
Among the boys, recent Methacton graduate Brandon Vance took top honors with a 2-over 73 over a course that measures 6,446 yards for the guys.
Wayne’s John Updike, the only Class of 2019 in the boys field, carded a 79 to finish in a tie for ninth.

Sydnes goes low at Pennsauken

Members of Andy Achenbach’s powerhouse Radnor program were playing good golf all over the place as sophomore Michael Sydnes took top honors in the 13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia PGA Junior Tour stop Tuesday at Pennsauken Country Club.
Sydnes’ 77 over the 6,213-yard, par-70 Pennsauken layout was the best score recorded by guys of any age group.
There was a three-way tie atop the 16-to-18 division among Bryn Mawr’s Ryan Conway, Quakertown’s Joe Rochelle and Abington’s Joshua Sheerhan at 82 with the title going to Rochelle on a back-nine scorecard tiebreaker.
Garnet Valley senior Michael Stanilka finished in a tie for 12th with a 90 and Matthew Hoppe of Garnet Valley finished 19th with a 103.
In the 13-to-15 division, David Hurley of Newtown Square finished in a tie for 11th with a 90, Frederick Hammer of Wayne finished in a tie for 14th with a 91 and Aj Aivazoglou of Glen Mills finished 20th with a 97.
Caroline Barker, who helped Notre Dame win its sixth straight Inter-Ac League title as a senior this spring, topped the 16-to-18 division with a 95 for her first Junior Tour victory.
Luke Farquhar of Haddon Heights, N.J. topped the field among the nine-holers with a 42.    The event was sponsored by BagBoy, which presented Zeng with a Quad Plus push cart in addition to his first-place medal.

Vance, Sager are winners at Turtle Creek

Kyle Vance, the District One Class AAA champion as a freshman at Methacton last fall, and Maddie Sager, the Owen J. Roberts junior who was a PIAA Class AAA medalist last fall, took top honors in a Philadelphia PGA Junior Elite Tour event held at Turtle Creek Golf Club.
There were weather delays Wednesday that required some players to come back Thursday to complete their first rounds, but the 36-hole event was completed.
The elite events lump all the age groups into one and despite being one of the younger competitors in a 13-to-18 division, Vance, with rounds of 73 and 71, carded an even-par 144 to finish a shot ahead of Tom Fisher (74-71) of Horsham among the boys.
Jack Hirsh (76-80) of Villanova finished in a tie for 22nd at 156, Jacob Liberman (82-76) of Radnor and Jake Calamaro (78-80) of Newtown Square finished in a tie for 28th at 158 and Michael Sydnes (80-81) of Bryn Mawr finished in a tie for 37th at 161.
