Villanova’s Sokol twins, Henry and Jack, each had an eagle on his scorecard as they shared the top spot in 13-to-15 division, each carding a 1-under-par 71 in the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Olde Homestead Golf Club in New Tripoli above Allentown Monday.
There were thunderstorms and rain around Monday – the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier in Chambersburg endured at least one long weather delay – and it looks like several of the Philly Junior Tour players were unable to complete their rounds.
But Henry Sokol got it going on the incoming nine at Olde Homestead, touring the back nine in 2-under 34, and Jack Sokol got off to a hot start, touring the front nine in 3-under 33.
Henry Sokol made birdies on the first, seventh and 11th holes and then punctuated his solid round with an eagle at the par-5 16th. He also had 10 pars on his card.
Jack Sokol opened his round by making an eagle at the par-5 first hole, added birdies at eight and 14 and also had 10 pars on his card.
The twins are Class of 2029 competitors, so some high school golf team might be getting two players with a lot of tournament experience added to its roster when the 2025 season gets under way in late August.
William Thorkelson of Bryn Mawr opened his round with a birdie at the first hole, went back-to-back with birdies at 12 and 13 and then finished up with another birdie at 18 while making 10 pars as he took third place with a 1-over 73, two shots behind the Sokol twins.
Thorkelson is also a Class of ’29 guy, so he should also be a nice addition to somebody’s scholastic roster later this summer.
Ben Nowland, a sophomore on the Avon Grove golf team, took fourth place with an 80, Luke Bergin of Wayne was fifth with an 85 and Lucas Shank of West Chester rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as he finished sixth with a 92.
Matthew Smith of Hammonton, N.J. opened his round with an eagle at the par-5 first hole, made birdies at six, 11 and 14 and had 10 pars on his scorecard as he matched the Sokol twins for the low round of the day with a 1-under 71 that enabled him to claim the top spot in the 16-to-18 division.
Smith had seven of his 10 pars on the incoming nine at Olde Homestead, including four straight pars to close out his round.
Nate Radwanski, who wrapped up an outstanding scholastic career at Governor Mifflin by finishing in a tie for fifth place in the PIAA Class AAA Championship as a senior last fall, headed a trio of players who finished in a tie for second in the 16-to-18 division at Olde Homestead, each landing on 1-over 73.
Radwanski made an early birdie at the eighth hole and then heated up on the closing stretch at Olde Homestead with three straight birdies at 15, 16 and 17 while touring the back nine in 2-under 34. Radwanski also had 10 pars on his card.
Radwanski was joined at 1-over by Everett Harrold, a sophomore on Central York’s District Three Class AAA championship team, and Robert Stout of Trenton, N.J.
Harrold made birdies at the first, fifth, eighth, 13th, 14th and 16th holes, six of them in all, and had seven pars on his card. Stout had back-to-back birdies at the third and fourth holes early in his round, added birdies at 12 and 16 and had 10 pars on his card.
Niklas Skjeveland, a senior on the golf team at Catholic League power La Salle, took fifth place with a 4-over 76, Colin Daugherty of Chester Springs was sixth with a 79 and Gavin Reinert, a sophomore on the Central Bucks East golf team, finished seventh with an 81.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division was a trio of players who finished in a tie for eighth place at 82 that included Will Swartley, a senior on the Boyertown golf team, Renzo Ochotorena, a senior on the Saucon Valley golf team, and Chase Baker of Huntingdon Valley.
Nicole Tarquinio of Bridgeton, N.J. was the only girl in the 16-to-18 division to complete her round and she had 10 pars on her scorecard on her way to a solid 86.
Tarquinio had claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory less than a week earlier in a stop at Jeffersonville Golf Club in West Norriton.
Kallista Spence of Phoenixville was the only girl in the 13-to-15 division to complete her round and recorded a 110.
Damien Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J. made a birdie on the first hole and had three pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of boys 12-and-under nine-holers with a 5-over 41.
Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr had four pars on his card as he finished two shots behind Dollard in second place with a 43.
Jackson Jones, another Bryn Mawr guy, Grant Cooper of Erdenheim and Joshi Sadashiv of Coopersburg shared third place, each tallying a 47.
Jones had two pars on his card, Cooper made a par on the fourth hole and Sadashiv had two pars on his card.
Tyler Smith of Blue Bell took sixth place with a 52 and Brady Fry of Pennsburg rounded out the field in the boys 12-and-under division as he finished seventh with a 54.
Another member of Pennsburg’s Team Fry, Lillian Fry, was the lone entry in the girls 12-and-under division and she registered a 61.
