Christopher Parrish, one of New Jersey’s top scholastic players as a junior at Kingsway this spring, put together a solid 1-over-par 72 at Back Creek Golf Club in Middletown, Del. to earn a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory June 27th in the 16-to-18 division.
Parrish made birdies at the first and eighth holes, then went back-to-back with birdies at 10 and 11 and had 10 pars on his scorecard, including a string of six in a row on Back Creek’s incoming nine from 12 through 17.
Parrish’s closest pursuer among the older guys was Ryan Stankoski of Mullica Hill, N.J. as he made birdies on the 12th and 14th holes and had eight pars on his card, including four straight pars to close out his round, to earn runnerup honors with a 6-over 77.
Josh Mohn of Wilmington, Del. had 10 pars on his card as he finished in third place with an 81 that left him four shots behind Stankoski.
Evan Zakielarz, another Wilmington, Del. guy, took fourth place with an 84 and the trio of Shane Cornell, a junior on the Avon Grove golf team, Rhys Makai of Swarthmore and Jack Kessler of Mickleton, N.J. finished a shot behind Zakielarz in a tie for fifth place, each posting an 85.
Tyler Buzby of Bear, Del. took eighth place with an 88, Vyom Shukla of Berwyn was ninth with an 89 and Michael Doyle of Haddonfield, N.J. rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 10th with a 91.
Quinten Joiner of Millington, Md. made back-to-back birdies at the fifth and sixth holes and had 11 pars on his scorecard, including four straight pars to close out his round, as he finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with a 3-over 74.
A couple of Wilmington, Del. entries, Jacob Russell and Owen Newmark, finished 2-3, respectively, among the younger guys, Russell tallying a 4-over 75 and Newmark recording a 6-over 77.
Russell got it going on the incoming nine at Back Creek with back-to-back birdies at the 11th and 12th holes and another birdie at 15 and had eight pars on his card. Newmark heated up on the outgoing nine at Back Creek, making back-to-back birdies at the fourth and fifth holes and another at seven and had nine pars on his card.
Tucker Detwiler, an incoming freshman at Malvern Prep and a West Chester resident, took fourth place with a 78 and Brooks McCall made it three Wilmingtonians among the top five finishers in the 13-to-15 division as he finished fifth with an 81.
Brayden Hughes of Hockessin, Del. and Gavin Reger of Wayne shared sixth place, each registering an 82, and Luke Peyton of Frankford, Del. and Max Davis of Newtown Square finished in a tie for eighth, each signing for an 83.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division was Jack Forstein of Moorestown, N.J. as he finished alone in 10th place with an 85.
In the girls 16-to-18 division, Team Bernardi out of Sewell, N.J. battled it out with Stella Bernardi claiming the Philly Junior Tour victory with a solid 6-over 77 and Lydia Bernardi rounding out a short field in the division by finishing in second place with an 89.
Stella Bernardi made a birdie at the fifth hole and had 12 pars on her scorecard, including a run of seven straight pars from seven through 13. Lydia Bernardi had five pars on her card.
Hannah LeGrow of Wilmington, Del. and Siena Cohen of Marlton, N.J. shared the top spot in the 13-to-15 division as each carded a 94.
LeGrow made a birdie on the eighth hole and had two pars on her scorecard. Cohen had three pars on her card.
Kiera Post of Lincoln University had three pars on her card as she rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division by finishing in third place with a 96, two shots behind LeGrow and Cohen.
Jack Gilbert of Bryn Mawr made birdies at the fifth and ninth holes and had four pars on his scorecard that gave him the edge over a competitive group of boys 12-and-under nine-holers with a 1-over 36.
Brody Rollins of Milton, Del. and Charlie Sears of Wilmington, Del. finished in a tie for second place, each ending up a shot behind Gilbert with a 2-over 37.
Rollins made a birdie on the third hole and had five pars on his card while Sears made a birdie at five and had six pars on his card, closing out his round with four straight pars.
Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg and Damien Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J. finished in a tie for fourth place, each signing for a 3-over 38.
Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr, coming off a victory in the boys 12-and-under division two days earlier at Jeffersonville Golf Club, headed a group of four players who finished in a tie for sixth place a 4-over 39 that included James Wilson of Wilmington, Del., Helmut Dang of Newtown Square and Aiden Jose of Brick, N.J.
The top nine finishers were separated by just three shots.
Rounding out the top 10 in the boys 12-and-under division was Michael Perry, another Wilmington, Del. guy, as he finished in 10th place with a 44.
Arianna Testaiuti of Newtown Square had two pars as she bested a short field of girls 12-and-under nine-holers with a 45.
Aashi Chakraborty of Kennett Square earned runnerup honors in the girls 12-and-under division with a 57.
