A couple of Archbishop Carroll teammates, senior Matt Hurchalla and junior Jake Johnson, finished 1-2, respectively, in the 16-to-18 division as the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour made a stop at Heidelberg Country Club in Bernville, Berks County, on a fine day of fall weather Saturday.
With their scholastic seasons behind them, Hurchalla had the best round of the day with a sparkling 1-over-par 71 to claim a Philly Junior Tour victory while Johnson finished seven shots behind his Patriot teammate in second place with a 78.
Hurchalla of Wallingford got off to a strong start with birdies at the third, fifth and eighth holes on his way to a 2-under 32 on the outgoing nine at Heidelberg. Hurchalla finished with 11 pars on his scorecard. Johnson of Wayne made a birdie on the 12th hole and had 11 pars on his card, including five straight pars to open his round.
Gavin Siravo of Wyomissing had six pars on his card as he finished in third place with an 86.
Reilly McCullough of Covington Township took fourth place with an 89, Jakob Chapman of Honey Brook was fifth with a 90 and Rishabh Jupudi of Philadelphia was sixth with a 95.
Clayton Roynan of Collegeville rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished in seventh place with a 97.
Anestis Kaideremtzis of Glen Mills made birdies at the third and seventh holes on his way to a 1-under 33 on Heidelberg’s outgoing nine as he finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with a 4-over 74. Kaideremtzis had 11 pars on his scorecard.
Lawson Leeper of York made a birdie on the eighth hole and had 11 pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors in the division with a 77. Leeper, coming off a Philly Junior Tour victory last weekend at Foxchase Golf Club, had five straight pars from the third to the seventh holes and did it again on the back nine with five straight pars from 11 through 15.
Miles Watson of Hershey had seven pars on his card as he finished alone in third place with an 86.
Nick Linkchorst of Glen Mills took fourth place with an 87, Eddie Gephardt of Swarthmore was fifth with an 88, Joseph Gangemi Jr. of Downingtown was sixth with a 91 and Yaejoon Wee of Chesterbrook was seventh with a 92.
Kyle Citro of Doylestown and Vyom Shukla of Berwyn shared eighth place, each signing for a 96 and Gus Wolfe of Downingtown rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished alone in 10th place with a 97.
Jiayin Gu of Pottstown was the only girl to make the trip to Berks County and she claimed a win in the 16-to-18 division with a 102.
Ian Rotto of Kennett Square continued his fall roll as he made a birdie on the fourth hole and had four pars on his scorecard to best the field of nine-holers with a 4-over 38. Rotto was coming off a victory in last weekend’s Philly Junior Tour stop at Foxchase.
Preston Minio of Lansdale made a birdie on the third hole and had three pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Rotto in second place with a 5-over 39. Nazareth’s Dane Mohap, who has lived near the top of the coed 12-and-under leaderboard for months, made a birdie at the fifth hole and had five pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Minio in third place with a 6-over 40.
Benjamin Allwein of Annville took fourth place with a 42, Joseph Walsh of Hershey was fifth with a 46, Jefferson Allwein, another member of Annville’s Team Allwein, was sixth with a 51 and Megan Choi of Penn Valley was seventh with a 52.
Malvern’s Team Yan accounted for the last two spots on the coed 12-and-under leaderboard as Zheng Yan took eighth place with a 59 and Jia Yan rounded out the field by finishing ninth with a 61.
