The Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour held its Junior Stableford Championship Monday at Whitford Country Club in Exton, which was largely spared the worst of the drenching rains and severe weather that inundated other areas in the Philadelphia region.
It was hot and humid, of course, but it didn’t bother Hunter Stetson of Newtown Square as he piled up the most Stableford points for the day with 34, which gave him a victory in the 13-to-15 division. The Junior Stableford Championship was limited to the guys in the 16-to-18 and 13-to-15 divisions.
Stetson’s points came largely from his four birdies, which came during a stretch of seven holes at the ninth, 11th, 12th and 15 holes. He also had four pars on his scorecard.
Derek Johnson of Mountain Top had birdies at the sixth and 11th holes and registered six pars to claim runnerup honors among the younger guys with 27 points. Jackson Fryer of Ambler birdied the 15th hole and posted seven pars to finish a point behind Johnson in third place with 26 points.
Marshall Kain was another point behind Fryer in fourth place with 25 points.
Jax Puskar of Kennett Square and Havertown’s J.P. Hoban, the finalists in the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Junior-Junior Championship a year ago at West Chester Golf & Country Club won by Hoban, shared fifth place, each ending up with 23 points.
Three players, Zach Moua, Alec Thiele and Nick Linkchorst, finished in a tie for seventh place, each landing on 21 points. Trevor Ridge rounded out the top 10 as he finished alone in 10th place with 20 points.
Evan Rosenstein of Plymouth Meeting and Frankie Sass of Exton shared first place in the 16-to-18 division as each accounted for 30 points. Rosenstein made birdies at the sixth and 10th holes and had nine pars on his scorecard and Sass birdied the eighth hole and recorded 11 pars.
Anthony Carson of Broomall and Eric Fryer of Ambler’s Team Fryer each finished a shot behind the top two as they shared third place with 29 points apiece. Carson made birdies at the first and 16th holes and had eight pars on his scorecard while Eric Fryer had a solid round that included 11 pars.
Nathan Jones took fifth place with 27 points and Luke Watson and Alexander McCauley shared sixth place as each ended up with 26 points.
Conor Watson finished alone in eighth place with 21 points and Jarred Berish and Charlie Noll rounded out the top 10 as they finished in a tie for ninth place, each piling up 20 points.
