Matthew Normand of Lumberton, N.J. and Ethan Martin of North Wales seemed to thrive in real-feel temperatures hovering around 100 degrees as each matched par with a 70 to capture their respective age groups in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Pennsauken Country Club in Pennsauken, N.J. Wednesday.
Normand made birdies at the third, 15th, 17th and 18th holes and had 10 pars on his way to an even-par 70 that landed him atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division. The three birdies on the last four holes gave Normand a 2-under 33 on the incoming nine of the 6,213-yard, par-70 Pennsauken layout.
Carson Thompson of Mount Laurel made birdies on the third and fifth holes and had nine pars on his scorecard as he posted a 5-over 75 to earn runnerup honors among the older guys. Luke Turse of Hainesport, N.J. made birdies at the third, sixth, eighth and 11th holes and had six pars as he finished in third place, a shot behind Thompson with a 76.
Trey Campbell of Haverford finished alone in fourth place with a 77. Spring-Ford junior Luke Fazio and Joshua Murphy of Newtown Square shared fifth place, each signing for a 79.
Another Spring-Ford junior, Jake Blackmore, Lee Gerber of Evesham Township, N.J. and Evan Goldberg of Linwood, N.J. finished in a tie for seventh place, each posting an 81. Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division was Aidan DeMuro of Harrisburg as he finished alone in 10th place with an 83.
Martin was nearly flawless on Pennsauken’s outgoing nine as he parred the first eight holes and birdied the ninth for a 1-under 34 total. He added a birdie at the 15th hole to claim the victory in the 13-to-15 division with his even-par round.
Noah Wallace of Elkton, Md. birdied the second hole and had 11 pars on his scorecard as he earned runnerup honors in the division with a 5-over 75. Hank Kancher of Philadelphia birdied the fourth, 14th and 17th holes and had six pars as he finished alone in third place with a 77.
Alec Thiele of Philadelphia took fourth place with a 78, Alex Nemo of Bryn Mawr was fifth with an 81, Ethan Legarda of Voorhees, N.J., Tommy Marshall of Marlton, N.J. was seventh with an 85 and Jamie Ciesielka of Woolwich Township, N.J. was eighth with an 87.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division were Riley Palometa of Westhampton, N.J. and Brandan Tyhanic of Little Egg Harbor, N.J. as they shared ninth place, each registering an 89.
Olivia Strigh of Hammonton, N.J., the Philly Junior Tour’s reigning 16-to-18 division Player of the Year, had the best round of the day among the girls as she made birdies at the eighth and 12th holes and had eight pars on her way to a 77 that gave her the victory among the older girls.
Curstan Bunch of Wilmington, Del. birdied the 17th hole and had five pars as she earned runnerup honors with an 85. Skye Mada of Cherry Hill, N.J. had seven pars on her scorecard as she finished in third place with a 93.
Rileigh Leighton of Williamstown, N.J. was a shot behind Mada in fourth place with a 94 and Rachana Raja of Moorestown, N.J. rounded out the 16-to-18 field as she finished fifth with a 104.
Danielle Higbee of Mickelton, N.J. made birdies at the eighth and 14th holes and had seven pars, including four straight to finish out the back nine as she carded an 81 to claim the top spot in the 13-to-15 field.
Cierra Griffith of Pottstown made birdies at the first and eighth holes and had four pars as she finished a shot behind Higbee in second place with an 82. Hannah Puc of Marlton, N.J. had six pars as she posted an 88 to take third place.
A couple of Berwyn entries, Maggie Hawkins and Brynne Mushlin, rounded out the 13-to-15 division field as Hawkins finished in fourth place with a 96 and Mushlin was a shot behind Hawkins in fifth with a 97.
Jason Mack of Delaware Water Gap continued what has been a strong run during the spring and summer segments of the Philly Junior Tour’s schedule as he birdied the second, fifth and sixth holes and added four pars, matching par with a 35 to best the field of nine-holers.
Benjamin Robbins of Holland was steady with seven pars as he claimed runnerup honors with a solid 2-over 37. Wyatt Underwood of Telford birdied the first hole and had two pars as he finished in third place with a 5-over 40.
Gus Stoltzfus of Lincoln University took fourth place with a 42 and Katherine Liu of Moorestown, N.J. was fifth with a 44.
Another Moorestown, N.J. entry, Judd Fletcher, shared sixth place with Onyu Park of Blue Bell and Alex DiGiacinto of Nazareth as all three landed on 45. Ethan Meersman of Fort Washington finished alone in ninth place with a 46.
Another Fort Washington entry, William Littleton, finished in a tie for 10th place with Thomas Carpenter of Bristol, Walker Mannon of Phoenixville and Vyam Shukla of Berwyn as that foursome rounded out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division, each signing for a 48.
