Hunter Reese of Mays Landing, N.J. made his Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour debut a winning one Wednesday as he carded a 6-over-par 78 over a tough Medford Village Country Club layout to capture the top spot in the 16-to-18 division.
Reese had birdies on the fifth and 10th holes as he was the only player to break 80 over the 6,458-yard, par-72 Medford Village course.
Matthew Normand of Lumberton, N.J., who has been a solid performer all summer, had birdies on the ninth and 18th holes as he was the runnerup with an 80, two shots behind Reese. Logan Hay of Bordentown took third place with an 83 that featured a birdie at the par-3 sixth hole.
Luke Turse of Hainesport, N.J. finished in fourth place with an 85 and Ryan Garvey of Media and Radnor High senior Rishi Khanna shared fifth, each carding an 86. Stephen Cain of Yardley was alone in seventh place as he signed for an 87.
Rounding out the top 10 were four players who finished in a tie for eighth place, including Central Bucks South’s Will Locovare, Tanner Cole of Lumberton, N.J., Sean Kelly of Lewisburg and Grant Zielinski of Berlin, N.J., all of whom registered an 89.
Noah Moelter of Doylestown was steady all day with nothing higher than a bogey on his scorecard as he carded an 8-over 80 that landed him atop the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division.
Travis Robertson of Fort Washington birdied the 17th hole on his way to an 85 that gave him runnerup honors. Quinton Heljenek of Glenside birdied the fourth hole as he finished a shot behind Robertson in third place with an 86.
Zachary Freed of Linwood, N.J. finished in fourth place with an 87 followed by Jack Cranmer of Riverton, N.J. and Riley Palomata of Westampton, N.J., both of whom carded an 89 to share fifth.
Rajan Khanna of Bryn Mawr’s Team Khanna finished alone in seventh place with a 90. Luca Gherardi of Hammonton, N.J. and Anthony Carson of Broomall ended up in a tie for eighth place, each posting a 91.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division were four players who finished in a tie for 10th place, including Michael Dignazio of Wilmington, Del., Brendan Reilly of Doylestown, Joseph Fabian of Manahawkin, N.J. and Andrew Todd of Newtown, all of whom signed for a 92.
Olivia Strigh of Hammonton, N.J., another player who has strung together a series of strong showings on the Junior Tour, birdied the 15th hole on her way to an 88 that gave her a victory in the girls 16-to-18 division.
Sophia Chesner of Moorestown, N.J. was the runnerup with a 109 and Ella Miller of Lumberton, N.J. took third place with a 137.
Hannah Puc of Marlton, N.J. birdied the seventh hole on her way to a 91 that enabled her to grab the top spot in the 13-to-15 division.
Curstan Bunch of Wilmington, Del. finished strongly, making a birdie on the 17th hole and a par on the 18th, as she registered a 98 that left her alone in second place. Nina Harris of Furlong took third place with a 100, including a solid 49 on the back nine.
Trevor Sieben, playing close to his Medford, N.J. home, had five pars to best the field of nine-holers with an 8-over 44.
Meredith Finger of Wilmington, Del. and Lucas Zhang of Yardley shared second place in the increasingly competitive coed 12-and-under division, each finishing two shots behind Sieben with a 46. Nicholas Fargnoli of Mickelton, N.J. took fourth place with a 48.
Michael DiDomenico of Devon, Michael Liu of Garnet Valley and Thomas Carpenter of Bristol ended up in a three-way tie for fifth place, each signing for a 49. Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. finished in eighth place with a 50 and Ravi Khanna, a third member of Bryn Mawr’s Team Khanna, was ninth with a 52.
Rounding out the top 10 in the division were two players, Quin Zuegner of New Hope and Jacob Shachar of Sewell, N.J., who finished in a tie for 10th place, each landing on 54.
