After a yeoman effort by the greenkeeping crew at Raven’s Claw Golf Club in the wake of Tropical Storm Isaias, three players in the younger 13-to-15 age group, Central Bucks West junior John Lee, Noah Moelter of Doylestown and Ajeet Bagga of Blue Bell, each carded a 2-over-par 74, the low score of the day among the guys, to get a share of Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory Wednesday.
Lee ended his round in dramatic fashion, his tee shot on the drivable, par-4 18th hole finishing five feet from the hole with Lee dropping the eagle putt. Lee was coming off a strong showing Monday at Cedarbrook Country Club, where his even-par 72 gave him a share of first place in the 13-to-15 division.
Moelter opened his round with a birdie at the first hole. Bagga had four birdies on his scorecard. The full results from Raven’s Claw were unavailable, so I can’t do my usual run through the top-10 finishers.
Owen Wisner of Reading birdied the 14th hole on his way to a 4-over 75 over the par-72 Raven’s Claw layout, located where Limerick Township meets Lower Pottsgrove Township near Pottstown. That left Wisner atop the 16-to-18 leaderboard.
Jason Rieger of Collegeville was the runnerup among the older guys with a 77 that included a birdie at the eighth hole. Corey Anderson of Media came on strong with birdies at the 12th and 18th holes as he posted a 79 that left him alone in third place.
The best score of the day among the girls also emerged from the younger 13-to-15 division as Nicole Yun of Limerick fired a 6-over 77 to claim a Junior Tour victory. Yun had three birdies on her card, including one on the 18th hole to finish her round.
Clarissa Leung of Villanova and Kate Roberts of Phoenixville also had strong showings, finishing a shot behind Yun in a tie for second place, each signing for a 78.
Nimah Narinesingh-Smith of Kennett Square topped the 16-to-18 field with a 78 that included a birdie at the first hole.
McKylie Boreman of New Cumberland had two birdies on her way to an 85 that gave her a runnerup finish among the older girls. Sofia Gambone of Worcester birdied the 12th hole as she took third place with an 88.
East Bradford’s Davis Conaway, who has dominated the coed 12-and-under division throughout the wraparound 2019-2020 season, was at it again with a 1-over 37 that bested the field of nine-holers. Conaway, a seventh-grader at Malvern Prep, had birdies at the first and eighth holes.
Thomas Ploszay of Berwyn had four pars on his way to a 5-over 41 that earned him runnerup honors. Chase Mitstifer of Sinking Spring had three pars as he finished in third place with a 44.
The Junior Tour singled out Raven’s Claw superintendent Randy Kresage for the effort by him and his crew to get Raven’s Claw, hit hard like almost all the golf courses in the area were by Tuesday’s heavy rain and whipping winds, ready in time for the youngsters to be able to play.
