Despite some persistent drizzle and generally dismal conditions, Nathan Guertler of Merchantville had four birdies in his final 10 holes as he fired a 1-under-par 70 at Rock Manor Golf Club in Wilmington, Del. to claim a victory in the 13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Thursday.
The 1-under total by Guertler, who has been playing solid golf all summer, was easily the best of the day among the guys.
Harriton sophomore Cyrus Parvizi and Zachary Antao of Chadds Ford both closed with a birdie at the 18th hole as they shared second place among the younger guys, each carding a 5-over 76 over the par-71 Rock Manor layout.
Penncrest sophomore Eli Shah finished two shots behind Parvizi and Antao and was alone in fourth place with a 78. Colin Drummond of Exton and Jake Bryson if Wilmington, Del. finished in a tie for fifth place, each signing for an 83.
Michael Dignazio of Wilmington, Del. and Kasim Narinesingh-Smith of Kennett Square each carded an 85 to share seventh place.
Anthony Carson of Broomall finished alone in ninth place with an 86 and Andrew Zieg of Kennett Square rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he ended up alone in 10th place with an 87.
Kristof Kopecky of Garnet Valley made a birdie on the eighth hole on his way to a 5-over 76 that left him atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division. Matthew Pulcinella of Chadds Ford made a birdie on the 15th hole as he earned runnerup honors with a 77, a shot behind Kopecky.
Nicklaus Woods of Garnet Valley had 12 pars on his scorecard as he finished in third place with a 7-over 78.
Dylan Gute of Chester Springs and Stephen Starnes of Kennett Square finished in a tie for fourth place, each registering an 80. Lower Merion senior Adam Chen, Charlie Kerprich of Dresher and John Bradbeer of Rosemont each posted an 82 as they shared sixth place.
Aaron Skii of West Chester finished alone in ninth place with an 83. Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division were Joshua Murphy of Newtown Square and Collin Sclesky of Wilmington, Del., both of whom carded an 85 to finish in a tie for 10th place.
The best score among the girls also emerged from the younger 13-to-15 division as Ava Svindland of Wilmington, Del. birdied the 18th hole for a 7-over 78 that gave her the top spot. Another Wilmington entry, Curstan Bunch, had six pars as she earned runnerup honors with a 91.
Emily Mayo of Boothwyn took third place with a 94, Makayla Stone of Garnet Valley was fourth with a 98 and Elisabeth Kehagias of Wilmington, Del. rounded out the 13-to-15 field, finishing fifth with a 105.
Olivia Strigh of Hammonton, N.J. birdied the 14th hole on her way to an 80 that gave her a victory in the 16-to-18 division. Suzie Ahn of Paoli had four pars as she earned runnerup honors with an 87.
Nimah Narinesingh-Smith of Kennett Square’s Team Narinesingh-Smith took third place with a 95 and Meredith Beyer of Avondale rounded out the 16-to-18 field, finishing fourth with a 97.
Malvern Prep seventh-grader Davis Conaway of East Bradford, who has dominated the coed 12-and-under division during the wraparound 2019-2020 season, shared first place with Cameron Peffel of Fleetwood among the nine-holers, each posting a 1-over 36. Conaway had a pair of birdies while Peffel made eight pars.
Quinten Joiner of Millington, Md., Declan Conner of Swarthmore and Meredith Finger of Wilmington, Del. each carded a 7-over 42 to share third place, six shots behind the top two.
Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. took sixth place with a 43, Jake Hollerback of Millsboro, Del., was seventh with a 44, Michael Liu of Garnet Valley was eighth with a 45 and Michael Keller of Chadds Ford was ninth with a 46.
Rounding out the top 10 among the nine-holers were two players – Dylan Michels of Newark, Del. and Gus Stoltzfus of Lincoln University – each of whom carded a 47 to end up in a tie for 10th place.
