Spring Grove sophomore Karl Frisk, who finished in a tie for
ninth in the PIAA Class AAA Championship last fall, had eight birdies on his
scorecard in a sizzling 5-under-par 67 that earned him a Philadelphia Section
PGA Junior Tour victory in the PPGA Central Counties Junior Championship Sunday
at the Out Door Country Club in York.
Frisk came out of the gate by making birdies on three of his
first four holes as he dominated the 6,460-yard, par-72 Out Door layout to
cruise to a seven-shot victory in the 16-to-18 age group.
Spring-Ford sophomore Luke Watson, a Class AAA East Regional
qualifier last fall, had three birdies, including two in his last five holes,
on his way to a runnerup finish with a 2-over 74.
Penn Manor senior Logan Hess, a Class AAA East Regional
qualifier last fall, and Plymouth-Whitemarsh sophomore Dylan Gooneratne shared
third place, each posting a 4-over 76.
It is probably the last week I’ll be referring to most of
these guys by the class they are about to complete. All these sophomores will
be juniors the minute they complete the school year.
Jun Lee of York finished alone in fifth place, carding a
5-over 77. John Bradbeer of Bryn Mawr, Ben Smith of Blain, and Nick Martin of
Audubon shared sixth place, each posting a 6-over 78. Smith will be graduating
from West Perry sometime this month and is headed to State College to join Greg
Nye’s Penn State program at the end of the summer.
Matthew Weaver of York took ninth place with a 79 and La
Salle junior Steve Lorezno, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier last fall, rounded out
the top 10 as he finished alone in 10th place with an 81.
Eric Miller of Westtown had five birdies, including three in
a five-hole stretch, as he carded a solid 1-over 73 to take top honors in the
13-to-15 division.
Sawyer Marten of East Petersburg had four birdies, including
on two of his first three holes, and Bobby Nicholson of York had three birdies,
also making birdie on two of his first three holes, as each posted a 3-over 75
to share second place, two shots behind Miller.
Nicholas Mahoney of Lewisburg finished alone in fourth place
with a 79. Caden Blanchette of Manchester took fifth with an 80, Trevor Snyder
of Dover was sixth with an 81 and Dante Billoni of Lancaster and Andrew Bilson
of Lititz were another shot behind Snyder in a tie for seventh at 82.
Rounding out the top 10 were Nicklaus Meisinger of West
Chester and Luke Corcoran of Lansdale, both of whom carded an 84 to finish in a
tie for ninth place.
Episcopal Academy sophomore Lauren Jones, coming off a
runnerup finish in the Inter-Ac League Championship last month, birdied the
third hole and finished strong with pars on three of her last four holes to
finish first in the girls 16-to-18 division with an 81.
Jones’ classmate at Episcopal, Kathleen Mark, was the
runnerup with a 97. Mark also birdied the third hole. Jones and Mark helped the
Churchwomen make an undefeated run through the Inter-Ac this spring as
Episcopal won its second straight league title.
Peyton Kraras of Wyomissing had four pars as she finished a
shot behind Mark in third place with a 98.
Emily McAninch of Mechanicsburg recorded a birdie on the 11th
hole and made three more pars on the back nine as she captured top honors in
the 13-to-15 division with an 84. Rhianna Gooneratne of Plymouth Meeting’s Team
Gooneratne birdied the second hole and made four straight pars on the back nine
as she was the runnerup, just a shot behind McAninch with an 85.
Taylor Hicks of Dallastown had six pars on her scorecard as
she took third with a 90. Tristan Groff of Lancaster was a shot behind Hicks in
fourth place with a 91. Makensy Knaub of York finished fifth with a 94.
Carson Holmes of Thorndale bested the field of nine-holers
with a 5-over 41 as he made four pars, including two clutch pars to finish his
round. He needed those last two pars because Mason Tucker of York, who had five
pars, was right on Holmes’ heels with a 6-over 42 that earned him runnerup
honors.
Taylor Furtney of Fayetteville had four pars as he was a shot
behind Tucker in third place with a 43. Lauren Leeper of York was a shot behind
Furtney in fourth place with a 44 and it was another shot back to Sean Curran
in fifth place with a 45.
Dallas Inch of York, Isaak Bloom of Bellefonte and Joey
McGinty of Lititz each posted a 46 as they ended up in a tie for sixth place.
Only five shots separated the top eight in the contentious 12-and-under coed
division.
Davis Conaway of West Chester took ninth place with a 48, Colton
Orris of Hershey was 10th with a 50 and Nicholas Armitage of Philadelphia
was 11th with a 57.
