Ciconte fires 3-under 69 to claim a Junior Tour victory in Rehoboth Junior Open

Anthony Ciconte of Wilmington, Del. fired an impressive 3-under-par 69 to top the field of younger guys, the 13-to-15 division, with the best score of the day in the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour’s Rehoboth Junior Open as the juniors beat Monday’s heat and humidity a little at Rehoboth Beach Country Club.
Anthony Ciconte had five birdies in bettering par over the 6,358-yard, par-72 Rehoboth Beach Country Club layout. And he needed to be good because Jeffrey Homer, part of a talented Team Homer entry, also of Wilmington, Del., chased Anthony Ciconte home with a sparkling 2-under 70 on his own.
Jeffrey Homer, who was coming off a solid second-place finish in the Precision Pro Golf Open at Hickory Valley Golf Club last week, eagled the third hole on his way to his way to runnerup honors at Rehoboth Beach.
Matthew Homer, who, I’m pretty sure, is Jeffrey Homer’s twin, and younger brother Jason (Jack) Homer, shared third place, each carding a 2-over 74 that left them four shots behind Jeffrey Homer.
Tommy Ciconte of Grosse Pointe, Mich. – cousin of Anthony’s, maybe – finished alone in fifth place with a 79, Graham White of West Chester was sixth and Zachary Antao of Chadds Ford was seventh with an 84.
Another member of Team Ciconte of Wilmington, Del., Joseph Ciconte, took eighth place with a 92, Evan Gebhardt of Magnolia, Del. was ninth with a 92, Joseph Crissman of Camden, Del. was 10th with a 109 and Hayden Barr of Harrington, Del. was 11th with a 114.
Jackson Paradee of Dover, Del. had 11 pars and two birdies in a solid 3-over 75 that gave him the top spot in the 16-to-18 division. Jack Stosic of Newark, Del. finished strong with a 1-over 37 on the back nine at Rehoboth Beach to earn runnerup honors in the division with a 79.
Ethan Kuhlkin, who came in from New York City, took third with an 82 that included a streak of four straight pars followed by a birdie to close out the front nine. Ross Charlton of Chadds Ford took fourth with an 85.
Ryan Wilson of Newark, Del. and Griffin Haas of Avondale finished in a tie for fifth place, each posting an 86. Stephen Cain of Yardley placed seventh with a 90.
Nathan Longo of Newark, Del. took eighth place with a 91, W. David Starnes of Kennett Square was ninth with a 92 and Lachie Alexander of Bryn Mawr rounded out the top 10 as he ended up alone in 10th place with a 94.
Riley Quartermain, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier as a sophomore at Haverford High last fall, had two pars and a birdie on the front nine on her way to an 81 that gave her the victory in the girls 16-to-18 division.
Stef Bonini, who wrapped up her sophomore season at Notre Dame this spring with a tie for fourth in the Inter-Ac League Championship last month at French Creek Golf Club, was the runnerup with a 90 that included a run of three straight pars on the front nine.
Lily Wagner of Camden, Del. had five pars on her way to a 98 that enabled her to finish in third place. Abigail Han of Hummelstown took fourth with a 99.
Avery McCrery of Wilmington, Del. had three pars and a birdie to close out the front nine on her way to an 86 that topped the field in the 13-to-15 division. Sawyer Brockstedt, who always seems to play well when she’s close to her Rehoboth Beach, Del. home, had five pars and a birdie to claim runnerup honors with an 89.
Ava Svindland of Wilmington, Del. had a run of three straight pars on the front nine as she carded a 96 to finish third. Mary Emma Guldi of West Chester took fourth with a 103.
Nathan Smith of Crumpton, Md. birdied the 12th hole as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 51. Cameron Wagner of Team Wagner of Camden, Del. had two pars and a birdie to take second place with a 53.
Jake Grossman of Elkins Park, Austin Dostal of Harbeson, Del. and Tate Wyatt of Dover, Del. finished in a tie for third, each posting a 55. Jacob Gabbard of Lewes, Del. took sixth with a 62 and Joseph Gangemi Jr. of Downingtown was seventh with a 65.
