Shaun Fedor, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier as a senior at
Manheim Township last fall, finished his round in spectacular fashion with an
eagle on the 18th hole as he took the first step toward a possible
berth in the 44th Boys Junior PGA Championship with a 2-under-par 70
Sunday at Pine Meadows Golf Club in Lebanon in the first of a series of
Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour qualifiers.
Fedor headed a group of 19 boys who earned a spot in the
Philadelphia Boys Junior PGA Championship, which will be held July 1 at The
Springhaven Club. The top finishers at Springhaven will earn a trip to one of
the top national junior events, the Boys Junior PGA Championship, which tees
off July 30 at Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford, Conn.
It was a regular Junior Tour stop for the girls and the
nine-holers at Pine Meadows. It’s not necessary to have qualifiers for the
Philadelphia Girls Junior PGA Championship, which will be held June 20 at
Bellewood Country Club. The top finishers at Bellewood will tee it up in the 44th
Girls Junior PGA Championship, which tees off July 9 at Keney Park.
Fedor had four birdies before his closing eagle in claiming
the top spot in the 16-to-18 division in the regular Junior Tour scoring. Most
of the 19 qualifiers in the overall 13-to-18 scoring for the Philadelphia Boys
Junior PGA Championship came out of the 16-to-18 division.
Only three boys from the younger 13-to-15 division were able
to get under the cut line, which fell at 11-over 83, to advance to Springhaven.
The other 16 qualifiers came out of the 16-to-18 division.
Logan Paczewski, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier as a freshman at
Dallas last fall, and John Peters of Carlisle shared second place in the
16-to-18 division as each posted a 2-over 74. Paczewski had five birdies on his

76 and was alone in fourth place.

at Harriton last fall, Unionville junior Roy Anderson, and Max Giles of Wayne

three qualifiers for the Philadelphia Boys Junior PGA Championship out of the
16-to-18 division.
West Chester Rustin sophomore Eric Miller had four birdies,
including three on the back nine, and nary a bogey on his scorecard in firing a
1-under 71 that gave him the top spot in the 13-to-15 division. He was also the
runnerup to Fedor in the overall 13-to-18 scoring.
Connor Gherghel of Orwigsburg was the runnerup to Miller in
the 13-to-15 division with an 80 that included two birdies. Gherghel also
punched his ticket to Springhaven with his round.
Harriton sophomore Zachary Sandler finished third with an 83
and got in just on the cut line in the overall 13-to-18 scoring and earned a
trip to Springhaven for the Philadelphia Boys Junior PGA Championship.
Keller Mulhern, who had a solid freshman season at Malvern
Prep last fall, finished fourth with an 84, but missed qualifying for the
Philadelphia Boys Junior PGA Championship by a shot.
Bethlehem’s Matthew Vital, the winner of the Boys 12-13
division in the Drive, Chip & Putt National Finals at Augusta National Golf
Club in April, Darren Nolan of Glenside and Dylan Kochis of Exton all landed on

carding a 91.
Academy of Notre Dame junior Stefanie Bonini claimed her
first Junior Tour win of 2019 as she carded a 97 to take top honors in the

Hill Academy junior Emma Schotsch, was the runnerup with a 103.

Mechanicsburg shared second place, each posting a 90. Meredith Meyer of

the leaderboard as Mason Tucker finished third with a 46 and Reed Krosse and
