Bobby Stefanski of Newtown Square matched par on a hybrid layout at Moselem Springs Golf Club in Fleetwood, Berks County with a 35 in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour Nine-Hole Series event Aug. 21st.
The nine-holers had the stage to themselves at Moselem Springs and played a loop that started with holes one through five and finished with nine, 10, 11 and 12.
Stefanski made birdies on the ninth and 11th holes and had five pars on his scorecard to edge a pair of his boys 12-and-under rivals by a shot and claim his fourth Philly Junior Tour victory of the season.
Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg and Jack Gilbert of Bryn Mawr shared runnerup honors as each posted a 1-over 36.
Thomas made a birdie at the 10th hole and had six pars on his card. After making a birdie at the second hole, Gilbert closed out his round by ripping off three straight birdies at 10, 11 and 12. Gilbert also had a par on the ninth hole as he went 3-under for his last four holes.
Gilbert had finished in second place and Stefanski was third a day earlier in a regular Philly Junior Tour stop at Middletown Country Club in Langhorne, Bucks County. They are part of a group of boys 12-and-under nine-holers that has been trading wins and high finishes throughout the summer.
Helmut Dang of Newtown Square, another player in that group of contenders who was the winner in the boys 12-and-under division a day earlier at Middletown, headed a foursome who finished in a tie for fourth place at Moselem Springs, each landing on 5-over 40.
Joining Dang in that quartet were Samuel Karas of Blue Bell, Rylan Foust of Exton and Damien Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J.
Baylor Keim, another Blue Bell guy, finished alone in eighth place with a 41.
Rounding out the top 10 in the boys 12-and-under division at Moselem Springs was another foursome at 44 that included August Steel of Perkasie, Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del., Smith Rawes of Elkins Park and Carter Bove of Kennett Square.
Alexa Mcelwain of Schnecksville made a birdie on the 11th hole to claim a Philly Junior Tour victory in the girls 12-and-under division with a 47.
Sydney Lim of Harleysville rounded out a short field of girls 12-and-under nine-holers as she finished in second place with a 62.
