Salesianum's LaScala captures a Philly Junior Tour victory in a weather-shortened stop at Odessa National

Luke LaScala, a junior on the Salesianum golf team, put together a solid 3-over-par 63 over 15 holes at Odessa National Golf Club in Townsend, Del. to claim a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division Sept. 6th.

Looks like thunderstorms arrived late in the day and prevented any of the Philly Junior Tour divisions from completing their entire scheduled rounds, but everybody got a decent amount of golf in.

The Philly Junior Tour schedule resumed after a break for the Labor Day weekend with the stop at Odessa National beginning the fall portion of the campaign with events on the weekends throughout the fall.

LaScala got hot on the outgoing nine at Odessa National with birdies at the fourth, fifth and eighth holes and ended up with seven pars on his scorecard.

Chris Parrish, a senior at Kingsway and the winner of the Delaware Junior Boys’ Championship this summer, and Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. finished in a tie for second place, each landing on 4-over 64, a shot behind LaScala.

Parrish, a Woolwich Township, N.J. resident, made birdies on the fifth and 11th holes and had nine pars on his card, opening his round by rattling off four straight pars. Sieben, a veteran Philly Junior Tour performer, made birdies on the fourth and eighth holes and had eight pars on his card, including a run of four straight pars from 10 through 13.

Jack Ferm, a junior on the Garnet Valley golf team, took fourth place with a 67, Josh Mohn of Wilmington, Del. was fifth with a 67 and Ferm’s Garnet Valley teammate and classmate Jack Yantosh and Braydon Dolan, a junior on the Springfield golf team, finished in a tie for sixth, each tallying a 68.

Rhys Makai of Swarthmore and Sean McGettigan of Somerdale, N.J. shared eighth place, each recording a 69 and Shane Cornell, a junior on the Avon Grove golf team, and Nathaniel Clark of Dover, Del. rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as they finished in a tie for 10th, each registering a 74.

Rithvik Nimma of Newtown made birdies on the fourth, fifth and eighth holes and had four pars on his scorecard as he finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division, shortened to nine holes by the weather, with an even-par 36.

It was Nimma’s second victory in a little more than two weeks as he earned a Philly Junior Tour win in the stop at Galen Hall Golf Club Aug. 22nd.

Henry Sokol of Villanova, the reigning Graham Company Player of the Year in the 13-to-15 division, and Quinten Joiner of Millington, Md. finished a shot behind Nimma in a tie for second place, each signing for a 1-over 37.

Henry Sokol opened his round with five straight pars followed by birdies at the sixth and seventh holes that left him at 2-under before a double bogey-bogey finish. Joiner made birdies on the seventh and ninth holes and had five pars on his card, including a string of four straight pars from three through six.

Lucas Solano of Vineland, N.J. took fourth place with a 2-over 38, Andrew Walker of Haddonfield, N.J. and William Thorkelson of Bryn Mawr shared fifth, each recording a 39, Gavin Reger of Wayne was seventh with a 40 and Jack Sokol, Henry Sokol’s twin brother, was eighth with a 42.

Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division was the trio of Brayden Hughes of Hockessin, Del., Tanner Gordon of Wilmington, Del. and Bryce Moyer of Bryn Mawr as they finished in a tie for ninth place, each carding a 45.

Isha Garg of Berlin, Md. had five pars on her scorecard as she earned a Philly Junior Tour victory in the girls 16-to-18 division, shortened to just seven holes by the weather, with a 3-over 32 total.

Team Bernardi out of Sewell, N.J. accounted for the next two spots on the 16-to-18 division leaderboard as Lydia Bernardi earned runnerup honors with a 6-over 35 and Stella Bernardi was another three shots behind Lydia Bernardi in third place with a 38.

Brooke Burge of Middletown, Del. took fourth place with a 40 and Andi Jones, a senior on the Cheltenham golf team, rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as she finished fifth with a 41.

Play in the 13-to-15 division was also halted after seven holes with Springfield’s Delaney Kearney, who had pars on the fifth and seventh holes, capturing a Philly Junior Tour victory with a 4-over 34.

Addison Murphy of Phoenixville also made pars on the fifth and seventh holes as she rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division by finishing in second place with a 37, two shots behind Kearney.

The boys 12-and-under nine-holers only completed five holes and the result was 10 players separated by just two shots in the typically competitive division.

Dean Matta of West Grove and Charlie Sears of Wilmington, Del. shared the top spot on the cluttered leaderboard as each was at 1-over 23 when play was called for the day.

Matta made a birdie on the second hole and rattled off three straight pars at the second, third and fourth holes. Sears made a birdie on the fifth hole and had pars on the third and fourth holes.

Noah Howard of Lafayette Hill, Damien Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J., Declan Mayo of Chadds Ford and James Wilson of Wilmington, Del. finished in a tie for third place, each ending up a shot behind Matta and Sears with a 2-over 24 total.

Howard, Dollard and Mayo all had three pars on their cards with Mayo opening his round with three straight pars. Wilson made a birdie on the second hole and two pars on his card.

Rounding out the top 10 in the boys 12-and-under division was a group of four players tied for seventh place at 25 that included a couple of Kennett Square guys in Thayer Boyd and Carter Bove, Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr and Grayson Wright of Philadelphia.

The girls 12-and-under nine holers were limited to just four holes, but Trisha Lebo, the talented 10-year-old from Collegeville, birdied two of those holes, the first and fourth, to claim top honors in the division with an even-par 17.

Addison Sabatini of West Chester rounded out a short field in the girls 12-and-under division as she finished in second place with a 27.
