Jesse Shurman of Villanova was a par machine as he had the best round of the day, a 5-over-par 74, at Middletown Country Club in Langhorne Aug. 20th to claim a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division.
Jesse Shurman had 14 pars on his scorecard, eight of them on the outgoing nine at the classic par-69 Middletown layout, including a string of five straight pars to open his round.
Rithvik Nimma of Newtown had 11 pars on his card, including a run of five straight pars from the ninth through the 13th holes, as he earned runnerup honors with an 8-over 77.
Nicholas Margiotti of Chalfont made a birdie on the seventh hole and had two pars on his card as he finished in third place with an 83.
Vaughn Smartt of Bryn Mawr and Jack Forstein of Moorestown, N.J. shared fourth place, each signing for an 84, Joel Vogt of Rising Sun, Md. was sixth with an 86, Lucas Helms of Levittown was seventh with an 88 and Steven Musacchio of Glenmoore finished eighth with a 90.
Pushkar Vatsavayi of Marlton, N.J. took ninth place with a 93 and Nicholas DiMedio of Haddonfield, N.J. rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished 10th with a 100.
Trey Barkman of West Chester made birdies on the fourth and ninth holes and had eight pars on his scorecard as he finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division with an 8-over 77.
Jack Yantosh, a junior on the Garnet Valley golf team, and Ben Perticari of West Deptford, N.J. shared runnerup honors among the older guys as each tallied a 9-over 78.
Yantosh made birdies on the 11th and 17th holes and had seven pars on his card while Perticari made birdies on the ninth, 11th and 17th holes and had seven pars on his card.
A couple of Mount Laurel, N.J. guys, Christian O’Neill and Max Angermeier, shared fourth place, each recording a 79, and Kevin Lang of Downingtown and Connor Feller of Yardley finished in a tie for sixth, each carding an 81.
Braydon Dolan, a junior on the Springfield (Delco) golf team, took eighth place with an 84, Bradford Bergstrom of Moorestown, N.J. was ninth with an 87 and Colin Myers of Mount Laurel Township, N.J. rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 10th with a 90.
Valerie Danby, the 11-year-old phenom from Avondale, continued her strong play in the summer's final days as she posted a sparkling 6-over 75 to claim her sixth Philly Junior Tour victory of the season in the girls 13-to-15 division.
Danby made birdies on the ninth and 17th holes and had 11 pars on her scorecard.
Danby was coming off a solid showing in the Jon M. Pritsch Memorial Cup at Medford Village Country Club in Medford, N.J. five days earlier as she won her singles match and teamed with Kayley Roberts, the senior standout at Phoenixville, to earn another point for the Philly Junior Tour in their four-ball match against a couple of stars from the New Jersey Section PGA Junior Tour.
Gabrielle Kim of Ambler and Madison Cabot of Newtown finished in a tie for second place, each tallying an 86.
Kim made a birdie on the eighth hole and had five pars on her card. Madison Cabot made a birdie on the second hole and had six pars on her card.
Brianna Stwalley, a sophomore on the Central Bucks West golf team, took fourth place with a 97, Elyssa Capaldo of Trooper was fifth with a 102 and Sabrina Cabinian of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. finished sixth with a 106.
Rounding out the field in the 13-to-15 division was Sonia Rosenman of Moorestown, N.J. as she finished a shot behind Cabinian in seventh place with a 107.
Helmut Dang of Newtown Square nearly matched the scorecard on Middletown’s outgoing nine as he bested the typically competitive bunch of boys 12-and-under nine-holers with a 1-over 36.
Dang opened his round with seven straight pars, made a bogey at the eighth hole and then parred nine to record his eighth Philly Junior Tour win of the season.
Jack Gilbert of Bryn Mawr made a birdie on the fourth hole and had four pars on his card as he finished two shots behind Dang in second place with a 3-over 38.
Bobby Stefanski, another Newtown Square guy, made a birdie on the ninth hole and rattled off three straight pars at two, three and four as he finished a shot behind Gilbert in third place with a 4-over 39.
Damien Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J. took fourth place with a 40, Niko Muego, another Bryn Mawr guy, and Baylor Keim of Blue Bell shared fifth, each recording a 41, and Ben Adkins of Lewes, Del. finished seventh with a 43.
Blake Shurman, another member of Villanova’s Team Shurman, and Jackson Jones of Bryn Mawr shared eighth place, each signing for a 44, and Samuel Karas of Blue Bell rounded out the top 10 in the boys 12-and-under division as he finished 10th with a 45.
Team Brillman out of Elkins Park accounted for the top two spots among the girls 12-and-under nine-holers as Evelyn Brillman made a par on the sixth hole to claim a Philly Junior Tour victory with a 46 and Eleanor Brillman finished six shots behind Evelyn Brillman in second place with a 52.
Charlotte Cabot, another member of Newtown’s Team Cabot, made a par on the second hole as she finished in third place with a 55.
Rounding out the field in the girls 12-and-under division was Avery Jaffe of Richboro as she finished in fourth place with a 66.
