Jackson Lane, a sophomore on the Cinnaminson High golf team, got it into red figures with a 2-under-par 70 at Medford Village Country Club in Medford, N.J. to capture a victory in the 13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Aug. 5th.
Lane jump-started his round by making an eagle at the par-5 fifth hole. He added birdies at the ninth, 11th and 12th holes and had 11 pars on his scorecard, including five straight pars to close out his round.
Lane had to be good to hold off Logan Turner of Berwyn as Turner kept up his late-summer roll by matching par at Medford Village with a 72 to earn runnerup honors.
Turner scorched the outgoing nine at Medford Village with a 3-under 33, thanks to a start that included birdies at the first, second, third and fifth holes. Tuner added a birdie on the 14th hole and had eight pars on his card.
John Hoffman of Marlton, N.J. made birdies at the 12th and 16th holes and had nine pars on his card as he finished six shots behind Turner in third place with a 6-over 78.
David Padgett of Barnegat, N.J. took fourth place with an 81, Owen Ciesielka, a freshman at Malvern Prep from West Chester, and Conor Coughlin of Haddon Township, N.J. shared fifth, each posting an 84 and Torrin Denton of Mullica Hill, N.J. and Jack Forstein of Moorestown, N.J. finished in a tie for seventh, each signing for an 86.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division were Christian Speitel of Haddonfield, N.J. and Gavin Lane, another member of Team Lane out of Cinnaminson, N.J., as they finished in a tie for ninth place, each recording an 87.
Thomas Carpenter, a junior at Holy Ghost Prep, made back-to-back birdies at the fourth and fifth holes and had 10 pars on his scorecard, including a string of four straight pars from 14 to 17, as he finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division with a 4-over 76.
There were several guys playing close to their homes in Medford, N.J., including the pair of Chase Mitchell and Trevor Sieben, who finished in a tie for second place, a shot behind Carpenter with 5-over 77s.
Mitchell made birdies on the fifth and 10th holes and had nine pars on his card. Sieben, a veteran Philly Junior Tour performer, made birdies at the fifth and 12th holes and had nine pars on his card, including a run of five straight pars from seven through 11.
Brayden Tritsch, another Medford guy, was two shots behind Mitchell and Sieben in fourth place with a 79.
Another Medford guy, Jackson Cogan, was part of a five-player logjam tied for fifth place at 80. Also part of that large group tied for fifth place were P.J. Foley of Northfield, N.J., Ethan Barroway of Cherry Hill, N.J., Jaxon Piccoli of Berlin, N.J. and Jamie Ciesielka of Woolwich Township, N.J.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division were Jordan Stott of West Creek, N.J. and Christian O’Neill of Mount Laurel, N.J. as they finished in a tie for 10th place, each tallying an 81.
Pretty competitive group of older guys as only five shots separated the top 11 finishers.
The best score among the girls also emerged out of the 13-to-15 division as Madison Cabot of Newtown continued her strong late-summer roll with a 7-over 79.
Cabot made birdies at the fifth, 12th and 14th holes and had nine pars on her scorecard, including a string of four straight pars from nine through 11. It was Cabot’s 12th Philly Junior Tour win of the season.
Emma Cowan of Moorestown, N.J. had five pars on her card as she earned runnerup honors with a 90.
Mallie Heenan of Ocean City, N.J. had four pars on her card as she finished six shots behind Cowan in third place with a 96.
Naaya Patel, another Moorestown, N.J. entry, rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she took fourth place with a 110.
Nicole Tarquinio of Bridgeton, N.J. had six pars on her scorecard as she claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division with a solid 88.
Masey Heenan, another member of Team Heenan out of Ocean City, N.J., rounded out a short field in the 16-to-18 division as she had five pars on her card on her way to a 93.
Carter Bove of Kennett Square made a birdie on the sixth hole and had six pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of 12-and-under boys nine-holers with a 3-over 39. After a slow start, Bove went 1-under over the final seven holes.
Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. had three pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with a 43.
Bradan Boal of Woodbine, N.J. had two pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Wang in third place with a 44.
Matthew Bowman of Newtown rounded out the field in the boys 12-and-under division as he took fourth place with a 48.
