Ciochetto hangs tough at Paxon Hollow to claim another Philly Junior Tour victory

Bryce Ciochetto, a senior on the Haverford High golf team, carded a solid 1-over-par 72 at Paxon Hollow Country Club, the Marple Township-owned public facility in Broomall, to claim a victory in the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Aug. 7th.

By the time I’m getting to these Philly Junior Tour posts, the scholastic season is under way. Cicochetto was playing some solid golf leading up to the high school season. He added his win at Paxon Hollow to a Philly Junior Tour victory he recorded in July at Raven’s Claw Golf Club.

Ciochetto got off to a fast start with back-to-back birdies at the first and second holes and added another birdie at 11. He had 11 pars on his scorecard, rattling off seven straight pars from the third through the ninth holes to close out a 2-under 33 tour of the outgoing nine at Paxon Hollow.

Brian Nishimura, a junior on the Spring-Ford golf team, made a birdie on the fifth hole and had 13 pars on his card, closing out his round with a run of eight straight pars, as he earned runnerup honors with a 3-over 74.

Kevin Lang of Downingtown made a birdie on the 17th hole, the little downhill par-3 at Paxon Hollow, and had 12 pars on his card as he finished in third place, two shots behind Nishimura with a 5-over 76.

Patrick Rode, a junior on the St. Joseph’s Prep golf team playing close to his Broomall home, Mason Stephan, a junior on the Malvern Prep golf team from Collegeville, and Noah Brand, a senior on the Malvern Prep golf team and a Newtown Square resident, finished in a tie for fourth place, each tallying a 78.

Ciochetto’s teammate on the Haverford High golf team, Kieran Gillespie, also a senior, shared seventh place with Braydon Dolan, a junior on the Springfield golf team, and Pat Mannion, a senior on the Devon Prep golf team and a Villanova resident, each landing on 79.

Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division was the trio of Jimmy Warmkessel, a senior on the Episcopal Academy golf team and a Malvern resident, Chris Cipollone of Havertown and Vyom Shukla of Berwyn as they finished in a tie for 10th place, each signing for an 80.

Henry Sokol of Villanova, the reigning Graham Company Player of the Year in the 13-to-15 division, matched Ciochetto’s 1-over 72 to finish at the top of the leaderboard among the younger guys.

Henry Sokol had bookend birdies on the outgoing nine at Paxon Hollow at the first and ninth holes and added a third birdie at the par-3 17th. Henry Sokol also had 12 pars on his scorecard as he picked up his sixth Philly Junior Tour win of the season.

William Thorkelson of Bryn Mawr made birdies at the first, third, fifth and 17th holes and had seven pars on his card as he finished three shots behind Henry Sokol in second place with a 4-over 75.

Jake Julian of Malvern was another two shots behind Thorkelson in third place with a 6-over 77 as he had 14 pars on his card, finishing his round by matching the card with nine straight pars on Paxon Hollow’s incoming nine.

Gavin Reger of Wayne took fourth place with a 78 and the trio of Luciano Follo of Newtown Square, Jack Lobley of Gladwyne and William Quartermain of Bryn Mawr shared fifth, each recording a 79.

Demetri Orloff of Springfield took eighth place with an 80 and Jack Sokol, Henry Sokol’s twin brother, was another shot behind Orloff in ninth with an 81.

Michael Manzi of Newtown Square and Eric Cunningham of Wayne rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as they finished in a tie for 10th place, each registering an 82.

Conestoga senior Suri Ahn made a birdie on the 14th hole and had seven pars on her scorecard as she claimed a victory in the girls 16-to-18 division with a 91, her sixth Philly Junior Tour win of the season.

Ahn was a member of the Pioneers team that finished in fourth place in the PIAA Class AAA team competition last fall.

Nadia Yackanicz of Schwenksville had three pars on her card as she rounded out a short field in the 16-to-18 division by earning runnerup honors with a 102. Yackanicz graduated from Perkiomen Valley in the spring and has probably already joined the program at Bloomsburg.

Delaney Kearney of Springfield had five pars on her scorecard, four of them coming in a row from the third through the sixth holes, as she finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division as she match Ahn’s total with a 91.

Hannah LeGrow of Wilmington, Del. made pars at the seventh and 12th holes as she finished in second place with a 103.

Naaya Patel of Moorestown, N.J. made pars on the 14th and 17th holes as she finished in third place with a 112.

Erin Urbanski of West Chester rounded out the field in the 13-to-16 division as she finished in fourth place with a 125.

Michael Perry of Wilmington, Del. made birdies at the fifth, sixth and ninth holes and had three pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of boys 12-and-under nine-holers by matching par on Paxon Hollow’s outgoing nine with a sparkling 35.

Xunnan Dang of Newtown Square opened his round with a birdie at the first hole and had five pars on his card, including four straight pars to close out his round, as he earned runnerup honors with a 2-over 37.

Damien Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J. had five pars on his card as he finished two shots behind Dang in third place with a 4-over 39.

Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr took fourth place with a 41, Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. was fifth with a 43, Dillon Tierney of Marlton, N.J. was sixth with a 47, Jack Kolmer of Wayne was seventh with a 48 and Nolan English of Villanova was eighth with a 49.

Dino Luccia of North Wales took ninth place with a 50, Chase Lofgren of Bryn Mawr was 10th with a 55 and Will Caramanico of Springfield rounded out the field in the boys 12-and-under division as he finished 11th with a 66.
