Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg put together a solid 1-over-par 37 to finish first in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour Nine-Hole Series stop Monday at Sweet Water Golf Course in Pennsburg in the far northwest reaches of Montgomery County.
There were showers around Monday and I got pretty wet looping in an outing at Stonewall in the afternoon, but I’m not sure it was raining everywhere and if you got off the golf course early, you might have avoided the wet weather altogether.
The conditions didn’t seem to bother Thomas in any case as he made a birdie on the fourth hole and had seven pars on his scorecard, including four straight pars to complete his round as he bested a field limited to the boys 12-and-under nine-holers.
Helmut Dang of Newtown Square was Thomas’ closest pursuer and he had six pars on his card in a 4-over 36 that left him three shots behind Thomas.
Smith Rawes of Elkins Park and Andrew Herman of Telford finished in a tie for third place, each signing for a 42.
Rawes made a birdie on the second hole and had two pars on his card. Herman finished out his round with a birdie on the par-3 ninth hole and had three pars on his card.
Joe Bowers of Lewisburg, Joey Charpentier of Schwenksville and Samuel Karas of Blue Bell finished in a tie for fifth place, each recording a 43.
Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. took eighth place with a 44 and Blake Shurman of Villanova and Thayer Boyd of Kennett Square rounded out the top 10 as they finished in a tie for ninth place, each posting a 45.
Connor Masulis of Pottstown took 11th place with a 47 and Tyler Smith of Blue Bell rounded out the field of boys 12-and-under nine-holers as he finished 12th with a 54. Masulis was coming off a runnerup finish in the boys 12-and-under division in the two-day Philly Junior Tour stop at Turtle Creek Golf Course in Limerick.
