St. Joe's Prep's Rode claims a Philly Junior Tour victory at John F. Byrne

 

   Patrick Rode, a sophomore on the St. Joseph’s Prep golf team from Broomall, carded a solid 2-over-par 69 at the John F. Byrne Golf Club in Philadelphia to capture a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division Thursday.

   Rode made birdies on the fourth, ninth and 17th holes and had 10 pars on his scorecard to finish five shots ahead of his St. Joseph’s Prep teammate Greg Kriz, an Oreland resident, and Constitution Science Leadership Academy junior Beau Riviere, a Philadelphia resident.

   Kriz, like Rode, a sophomore, made birdies at the fourth and 18th holes and had 10 pars on his card on his way to a 7-over 74. Riviere got off to a quick start with a birdie at the first hole and had 12 pars on his card, including a string of seven pars in a row from the 10th through the 16th holes as he matched Kriz’s 74.

   Logan Cassidy, a sophomore on the Holy Ghost Prep golf team, took fourth place with a 75, Nathan Goblirsch of Hammonton, N.J. was fifth with a 79, Michael Darcy of Fort Washington was sixth with an 80, Nolan Murray Jr. of Ambler was seventh with an 82 and Justin Wheeler of Warminster was eighth with an 83.

   Hudson Kramin of Malvern took ninth place with an 84 and Jordan Stott of West Creek, N.J. rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 10th with a 91.

   Rayan Shah, a George School freshman from Newtown, and Jesse Shurman of Villanova finished in a tie atop the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division, each signing for a 9-over 76.

   Shah made a birdie at the 12th hole and had seven pars on his scorecard while Jesse Shurman made a birdie at the seventh hole and had eight pars on his card.

   Beckett Kush of Yardley made birdies on the fourth and 15th holes and had eight pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Shah and Jesse Shurman in third place with a 77.

   Wade Ringen, a freshman on the Holy Ghost Prep golf team from Washington Crossing, took fourth place with an 80, Vincent Rossi, a freshman at Father Judge, was fifth with an 81, Gavin Schraegle, a freshman on the Devon Prep golf team from Phoenixville, was sixth with an 84, Gerard Cabeza, a freshman on the Neshaminy golf team, was seventh with an 85 and Luke Bergin of Wayne was eighth with an 87.

   Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division was a trio of players tied for ninth place, each registering a 90, including Lucas Helms, another freshman in the Holy Ghost Prep golf program from Levittown, Nick Masciantonio of Wayne and Nicholas Milone of Bryn Mawr.

   Madison Cabot of Newtown and Valerie Danby of Avondale shared the top spot in the girls 13-to-15 division as each recorded an 11-over 78.

   Madison Cabot made a birdie on the 10th hole and had seven pars on her scorecard. Danby, just an 11-year-old, had 10 pars on her card as she opened her round with four straight pars.

   Anna Rufo, a freshman on the Agnes Irwin golf team from Gladwyne, and Gabrielle Kim of Ambler finished in a tie for third place, each landing on 87.

   Rufo, who finished in a tie for 10th place in last month’s Inter-Ac League Championship at French Creek Golf Club, had five pars on her scorecard while Kim made birdies at the third and eighth holes and had five pars on her card.

   Marietta Hartmann, a sophomore on Episcopal Academy’s Inter-Ac championship team this spring from Devon, finished in fifth place with a 92. Hartmann finished in a tie for eighth place in the Inter-Ac individual championship at French Creek.

   Addison Murphy of Phoenixville took sixth place with a 97 and Abigail Olex of Media rounded out the field in the girls 13-to-15 division as she finished seventh with a 116.

   Joe Bowers took a road trip to Philadelphia from Lewisburg and bested the field of boys 12-and-under nine-holers with an 8-over 41. Bowers made a birdie on the third hole and had two pars on his scorecard.

   Blake Shurman, a member of Villanova’s Team Shurman, had two pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with a 44.

   Alex Cheng of Wilmington, Del. rounded out the field in the boys 12-and-under division as he registered a 48 to finish in third place.

   Skylar Crutchfield of Elkins Park bested the field of girls 12-and-under nine-holers with a 55.

   Charlotte Cabot, another member of Newtown’s Team Cabot, finished just a shot behind Crutchfield with a 56 to earn runnerup honors. Avery Jaffe of Richboro rounded out the field in the girls 12-and-under division as she finished in third place with a 60.
