Jake Hollerback, a Sussex Central junior coming off a victory in the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association Championship last month, matched par with a solid 72 at Rehoboth Beach Country Club to claim a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division in the Rehoboth Junior Open Tuesday.
Hollerback, a Millsboro, Del. resident, captured the title in the DIAA Championship at the St. Anne’s Golf Links in Middletown.
At Rehoboth Beach, Hollerback made birdies at the sixth, ninth, 13th and 17th holes and had 10 pars on his scorecard while matching par at the par-72 layout.
Christopher Parrish of Woolwich Township, N.J. made birdies at the fourth, 12th and 17th holes and had 10 pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors among the older guys with a 3-over 75.
Parrish was coming off a second-place finish a day earlier in a Philly Junior Tour stop at LBI National Golf & Resort at the Jersey Shore.
Jacob Gabbard of Lewes, Del. and Jack Ferm, a junior on the Garnet Valley golf team, finished in a tie for third place, each posting a 6-over 78 to finish three shots behind Parrish.
Gabbard made birdies at the fifth, ninth, 12th, 16th and 17th holes and had four pars on his card. Ferm made birdies on the fourth and ninth holes and had nine pars on his card.
Rider Nicholl, who wrapped up his scholastic career at Avon Grove last fall, and Quinn Mitchell of Wilmington, Del. shared fifth place, each signing for a 79, Griffin Coyle, a senior on the St. Joseph’s Prep’s golf team and a Blue Bell resident was seventh with an 80 and Parker Aliverini of Wilmington, Del. was eighth with an 81.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division was a trio of players, including Beau Bliem, a junior on the Pope John Paul II golf team and a Collegeville resident, Mercersburg Academy senior Cameron Gierasch, a Camp Hill resident, and Landon Shoczolek of North Cape May, N.J., finishing in a tie for ninth place, each landing on 82.
Another Delawarean, Jack Tunnell of Lewes, finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with a 3-over 75.
Tunnell made birdies on the first, fifth and 17th holes and had 12 pars on his scorecard, including a run of six straight pars from the ninth through the 14th holes.
Logan Stoney of Hillsborough, N.J. and David Padgett of Barnegat, N.J. finished a shot behind Tunnell in a tie for second place, each signing for a 5-over 76.
Stoney put an exclamation point on his round with an eagle at the par-5 17th hole. He also made birdies on the third, ninth and 14th holes and had eight pars on his card.
Padgett made birdies on the seventh and 17th holes and had 10 pars on his card, including a string of seven straight pars from eight through 14.
Owen Ciesielka of West Chester took fourth place with a 77, Carter Newmark of Wilmington, Del. and Charles Blok of Downingtown shared fifth place, each recording an 81, and Patrick Thomas of Hockessin, Del. and Adam Cifra of Blue Bell finished in a tie for seventh place, each tallying an 82.
Brayden Hughes of Hockessin, Del. took ninth place with an 83 and Brooks McCall of Wilmington, Del. rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished 10th with an 84.
Wilson West Lawn senior Kyla Quimby, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier last fall, was the lone competitor in the girls 16-to-18 division and posted a solid 5-over 77. Quimby made birdies at the second, sixth and eighth holes and had seven pars on her scorecard, five of them during a 2-under 34 tour of the outgoing nine at Rehoboth Beach.
Valerie Danby, the 11-year-old from Avondale who is improving rapidly, matched Quimby’s 5-over 77 to finish at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division. Danby made birdies at the ninth and 17th holes and had nine pars on her scorecard.
Ellie Walls of Millsboro, Del. made birdies on the 10th and 18th holes and had six pars on her card as she earned runnerup honors with an 83.
Kiera Post of Lincoln University made pars on the second, 12th and 18th holes on her way to a 93 that enabled her to finish in third place.
Gabrielle Hamstead of Milton, Del. took fourth place with a 94 and Hannah LeGrow of Wilmington, Del. rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished fifth with a 109.
Preston Minio of Lansdale and Brody Rollins of Milton, Del. finished in a tie atop the field of boys 12-and-under nine-holers as each carded a solid 1-over 37.
Minio had eight pars on his scorecard while Rollins made a birdie at the second hole and had seven pars on his card.
Benjamin Adkins of Lewes, Del. finished up his round with a birdie at the ninth hole and had five pars on his card as he finished in third place with a 4-over 40.
Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg took fourth place with a 41, Thayer Boyd of Kennett Square and Charlie Sears of Wilmington, Del. shared fifth, each signing for a 42, and Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. and James Wilson of Wilmington, Del. finished in a tie for seventh, each recording a 44.
Dean Matta of West Grove took ninth place with a 45 and Michael Perry of Wilmington, Del. rounded out the top 10 in the boys 12-and-under division as he finished 10th with a 48.
Skylar Crutchfield of Elkins Park was the lone competitor in the girls 12-and-under division and she made a par on the fourth hole on her way to a 50.
