Rider Nicholl, who recently wrapped up his scholastic career at Avon Grove, and Harry Traynor, a junior on the Great Valley golf team this fall, each carded a 10-over-par 80 at Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del. as they shared the top spot in the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Nov. 2nd.
Nicholl had nine pars on his scorecard while Traynor had 10 pars on his card, opening his round with four straight pars, as each claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory.
Chase Dillman, who recently wrapped an outstanding scholastic career at Boyertown by earning a spot in the field in the PIAA Class AAA Championship at Penn State, made a birdie on the ninth hole and had eight pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Nicholl and Traynor in third place with an 81.
Ian Larsen, who capped his sophomore season at Downingtown West by qualifying for the PIAA Class AAA Championship, was a shot behind Dillman in fourth place with an 82. Larsen finished in a tie for second place in the District One Class AAA Championship at Turtle Creek Golf Course to punch his ticket to the state tournament.
A couple of West Chester guys, Trey Barkman and Zach Raihall, a junior on the West Chester Rustin golf team this fall, finished in a tie for fifth place, each posting an 83, and Ty Patchell of Perryville, Md. ended up in seventh with an 86.
Timothy Hueber of Westmont, N.J. took eighth place with a 94 and Chad Hughey of Rehoboth Beach, Del. rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished ninth with a 100.
Quinn Marshall of Wilmington, Del. made a birdie on the 11th hole and had nine pars on his scorecard, including five pars in a row to close out the outgoing nine at Deerfield from the fifth through the ninth holes, as he claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division with an 81.
A couple of Ches-Mont League rivals this fall, Matt McGinnity, a sophomore on the Unionville golf team, and Charlie Isler, a sophomore at West Chester Henderson, accounted for the next two spots on the leaderboard, McGinnity with an 83 to earn runnerup honors and Isler finishing in third place with an 84.
McGinnity had eight pars on his card while Isler made a birdie on the 15th hole and had five pars on his card.
Wil Simonson of Haddonfield, N.J. and Jack Ferm shared fourth place, each signing for an 85, Henry Sokol of Villanova was sixth with an 87 and Colin Burke of Wilmington, Del. was seventh with an 88.
Arbor Frieberg, playing close to his Newark, Del. home, took eighth place with an 89 and Jacob Russell of Wilmington, Del. and Jack Sokol, twin brother of Henry Sokol, rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as they finished in a tie for ninth, each registering a 91.
The best score among the girls came out of the 13-to-15 division as Zuzu Connolly of Wilmington, Del. had six pars on her scorecard on her way to an 88 that earned her a Philly Junior Tour win.
Chandler Mason of Newtown Square had three pars on her card, all of them on the incoming nine at Deerfield, as she rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division by finishing in second place with a 95.
Brooke Burge of Middletown, Del. was the only entry in the girls 16-to-18 division and she made a par on the 11th hole on her way to a Philly Junior Tour victory with a 113.
Damien Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J. made a birdie on the eighth hole and had two pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 6-over 41.
James Wilson of Wilmington, Del. made back-to-back pars on the second and third holes as he earned runnerup honors with a 9-over 44.
A couple of Thomases, Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg and Patrick Thomas of Hockessin, Del., finished in a tie for third place, each recording a 45.
Jonathan Thomas, coming off a weekend sweep of the coed 12-and-under division the previous weekend in South Jersey stops at Buena Vista Country Club and Avalon Golf Club, made back-to-back pars on the sixth and seventh holes. Patrick Thomas made back-to-back pars on the second and third holes.
Michael Perry of Wilmington, Del. and Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. shared fifth place, each signing for a 46, and Steven Musacchio of Glenmoore finished seventh with a 47.
Connor Michaels of Lancaster and Kolton Vannoy of Phoenixville shared eighth place, each carding a 52, and Declan Mayo of Chadds Ford rounded out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division as he finished 10th with a 53.
