Trebor Melendez, the talented 12-year-old from Vineland, N.J., doesn’t show up at Philadelphia Section PGA events often, but when he does, he usually means business.
Melendez mostly limits his Philly Junior Tour forays to the events in South Jersey and there he was Nov. 3rd at Pitman Golf Course, matching par with a sparkling 70 to finish at the top of the leaderboard in a competitive 13-to-15 division. It was Melendez’s sixth Philly Junior Tour victory of the year.
Melendez made birdies at the 13th and 15th holes and had 14 pars on his scorecard. He toured the incoming nine at Pitman in 1-under 34.
Wil Simonson of Haddonfield, N.J. has been playing some solid golf on the Philly Junior Tour this fall. He made birdies on the third and 14th holes and had 12 pars on his card as he finished two shots behind Melendez with a 2-over 72 to earn runnerup honors.
Jack Ferm of Garnet Valley made a birdie on the 14th hole and his solid card included 13 pars as he finished in third place with a 3-over 73.
Ryan Sun of Morganville, N.J. took fourth place with a 74 and Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. was fifth with a 75.
A trio of Villanova residents accounted for the next three spots on the leaderboard as Jesse Shurman took sixth place with a 76, Henry Sokol was seventh with a 77 and Jack Sokol, Henry’s twin brother, was eighth with a 79.
Bryce Moyer took ninth place with an 80 and Torrin Denton of Mullica Hill, N.J. rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished 10th with an 82.
Chase Mitchell of Medford, N.J. made an eagle on the par-5 15th hole and had 11 pars on his scorecard, seven of them on his way to a 1-under 34 on the back nine at Pitman, as he claimed a Philly Junior Tour win in the 16-to-18 division with a 4-over 74.
Chase Adomaitis of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. made a birdie on the ninth hole, added back-to-back birdies at 14 and 15 and had eight pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Mitchell in second place with a 5-over 75.
Brayden Tritsch, another Medford, N.J. entry, made a birdie on the 15th hole and had 11 pars on his card as he finished in third place with a 77.
Tyler Kulik of Mount Royal, N.J. and Chase Dillman, who wrapped up his scholastic career at Boyertown by earning a trip to the PIAA Class AAA Championship this fall, finished in a tie for fourth place, each posting a 78.
Sean Murphy of Cherry Hill, N.J. took sixth place with an 85, Carson Deringer, a District One Class AAA qualifier as a junior at Harriton this fall, was seventh with an 86, Sebastian Furfaro of Mickleton, N.J. was eighth with an 88 and Justin Madden of Haddon Township, N.J. was ninth with an 89.
Cole Dopke of Woolwich Township, N.J. finished in 10th place with a 95 and Adam Esemplare of Haddonfield, N.J. rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 11th with a 99.
Much like Melendez, Hannah Webb of Woolwich, N.J. doesn’t show up often on the Philly Junior Tour, but when she does, she makes her presence known.
Webb, a sophomore at Archmere Academy made a birdie on the third hole and had 12 pars on her scorecard as she claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division with a 5-over 75.
It was Webb’s fifth Philly Junior Tour win of the season, including the overall crown in the Junior Tour Championship in August at Chester Valley Golf Club.
Anna Firko, a junior at Mt. Pleasant High in Delaware, had six pars on her card as she rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division by earning runnerup honors with an 88.
Rylee Delaney of West Deptford, N.J. was the lone entry in the 16-to-18 division and had five pars on her scorecard on her way to a solid 87 as she claimed a Philly Junior Tour win.
Damien Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J. completed a weekend sweep in the coed 12-and-under division as he made a birdie on the fifth hole and had three pars on his scorecard to top the field of nine-holers with a 4-over 39.
Dollard claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory a day earlier by three shots in a stop at Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del.
Dollard’s margin of victory at Pitman was eight shots as Charlie Sears of Wilmington, Del. made a birdie on the sixth hole and added a par at eight as he earned runnerup honors with a 47.
Benjamin Adkins of Lewes, Del. and Blake Shurman, another member of Villanova’s Team Shurman, finished in a tie for third place, each signing for a 49. Adkins had two pars on his card.
Preston Lam of King of Prussia rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division as he finished in fifth place with a 62.
