Pretty sure this catches me up on the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour schedule for August. With the schedule limited to the weekends now that school is back in session, I should be able to keep up a little better than I could during the busy summer season.
Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg carded a solid 2-over-par 38 at Moselem Springs Golf Club in Fleetwood, Berks County to best the field in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour 9-Hole Series event Aug. 22nd.
The 12-and-under kids played the first five holes at Moselem Springs and then the ninth through the 12th holes for their nine.
Thomas made birdies at the fifth and ninth holes and had seven pars on his scorecard to finish two shots clear of runnerup Samuel Karas of Blue Bell.
Karas made an eagle at the par-5 ninth hole and had two pars on his card as he took second place with a 4-over 40. The kid’s 10-years old, so that’s some pretty good playing.
Jack Gilbert of Bryn Mawr and Ty Thompson of Devault finished a shot behind Karas in a tie for third place, each signing for a 41.
Gilbert made birdies on the ninth and 12th holes and had three pars on his card. Thompson made birdies at the first and ninth holes and had two pars on his card.
There was a four-way logjam tied for fifth place at 42, a group that included Baylor Keim, another Blue Bell guy, Carter Bove of Kennett Square, Connor Michaels of Lancaster and Taimoor Naseem of Sinking Spring.
Connor Masulis of Pottstown took ninth place with a 47 and Parker Rudershausen, another Kennett Square entry, rounded out the top 10 as he finished alone in 10th with a 48.
Andrew DElia of Clarks Summit took 11th place with a 50, Carson McNamee of Harleysville was 12th with a 51 and the duo of Joseph Charpentier of Schwenksville and Zheng Yan of Malvern finished in a tie for 13th, each ending up with a 52.
Ethan Lerner of Blue Bell took 15th place with a 54 and Michael Menichello of Harleysville rounded out the field in the 9-Hole Series event as he finished 16th with a 58.
