For the second day in a row, Rayan Shah of Newtown and Henry Sokol of Villanova finished 1-2, respectively, in the 13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Aug. 21st at Middletown Country Club in Langhorne.
Shah and Henry Sokol battled each other in 2023 in the coed 12-and-under nine-holers division. A day before the stop at Middletown Shah finished four shots ahead of Henry Sokol in a Philly Junior Tour event at John F. Byrne Golf Club, the home of First Tee of Greater Philadelphia in Philadelphia.
At Middletown, Shah made birdies at the 11th and 18th holes and had 13 pars on his scorecard, including a run of seven straight pars from the fourth through the 10th holes, as he carded a solid 1-over 70 that gave him a second straight Philly Junior Tour victory.
The two birdies on the incoming nine at Middletown helped Shah finish strong with an even-par 34 on the back nine.
Henry Sokol made a birdie at the 11th hole and had 12 pars on his card as he earned a second straight runnerup finish with a 4-over 73.
Henry Sokol’s twin brother, Jack Sokol, made birdies at the third, fifth and ninth holes and had six pars on his card as he finished five shots behind his brother in third place with a 78.
Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. took fourth place with a 79, William Quartermain of Bryn Mawr, winner of the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Junior-Junior Championship at the Moorestown Field Club this summer, was fifth with an 82, Rithvik Nimma of Newtown was sixth with an 83 and Arbor Frieberg of Newark, Del. was seventh with an 84.
Maximus Petrakis of Marlton, N.J. and Jake Julian of Malvern shared eighth place, each posting an 86 and Michael White, a sophomore on the Springfield golf team, rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished alone in 10th with an 88.
Chase Dillman, a senior on the Boyertown golf team, tuned up for his appearance representing the Philly Junior Tour in the Jon M. Pritsch Cup at Somerset Hills Country Club a couple of days later, by finishing at the top of the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division with a 3-over 72.
Dillman made birdies at the fourth, eighth and 10th holes and had nine pars on his scorecard.
Ian Yoo, a senior on the Wissahickon golf team and Michael Liu, a sophomore on Archmere Academy’s Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) championship team in the spring, shared runnerup honors as he each recorded a 76, four shots behind Dillman.
Yoo made a birdie on the fifth hole and had 10 pars on his card and Liu made back-to-back birdies at the fourth and fifth holes, added a third birdie at 17 and had six pars on his card.
Brandon Carrigan of Warrington took fourth place with a 78, Vaughn Soltys of Linwood, N.J. was fifth with an 81 and the trio of Eric Coombs of North Cape May, N.J., James Gates of Ardmore and Ethan Barroway of Cherry Hill, N.J. finished in a tie for sixth place, each signing for an 82.
Ethan Legarda of Voorhees, N.J. took ninth place with an 84, Michael Doyle of Haddonfield, N.J. was 10th with an 86 and Nathan Mansueto of West Chester rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished in 11th place with an 87.
Madison Cabot of Newtown had seven pars on her scorecard, including four straight pars from the fourth through the seventh holes, as she claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory in the girls 13-to-15 division with a solid 80.
Gabrielle Kim of Ambler rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division as she had four pars on her card, finishing up her round with back-to-back pars on the 17th and 18th holes, as she earned runnerup honors with a 93.
Gavin Lane of Cinnaminson, N.J. had five pars on his scorecard, including three pars in a row at the sixth, seventh and eighth holes, as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 4-over 39.
Another Cinnaminson, N.J. entry, Damien Dollard, shared second place with Eric Cunningham of Wayne as each tallied a 42.
Connor Masulis of Pottstown took fourth place with a 45 and a pair of players out of Ambler, Mason Arnold and Emilie Davoli, finished in a tie for fifth, each posting a 47.
Rounding out the field in the coed 12-and-under division was a trio tied for seventh place at 49 that included a couple of Blue Bell guys in Baylor Keim and Samuel Karas and Matthew Bowman of Newtown.
