Downingtown West junior Brady Manning had the best score of the day, a solid 7-over-par 77, at Spring Hollow Golf Club in Spring City Saturday to finish atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division and claim a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory.
Manning made birdies at the 14th and 16th holes and had 11 pars on his scorecard on his way to the win. Manning will be in the field when the District One Class AAA Championship tees off Monday at Turtle Creek Golf Club. Manning punched his ticket to Turtle Creek by finishing in 15th place with an 80 in last week’s Ches-Mont League Championship at Applecross Country Club.
Kenneth Kreitz of Harleysville had 11 pars, including five straight from the 12th through the 16th holes, to earn runnerup honors with an 80. Ethan Cho of Ambler made an eagle at the par-5 sixth hole and had eight pars as he took third place with an 83.
Jacob Brady of Newark, Del. took fourth place with an 84 and Joshua Murphy of Newtown Square rounded out the 16-to-18 division field as he finished fifth with an 86.
Nick Linkchorst of Glen Mills and Radnor sophomore Shaun Mazzalupi got a share of medalist honors in the 13-to-15 division as each posted a 78.
Linkchorst made a birdie on the third hole and had 10 pars, seven of them on Spring Hollow’s incoming nine, to earn his piece of the the top spot. Mazzalupi made an eagle on the sixth hole and had nine pars to finish tied at the top. Mazzalupi will also tee it up in the District One Class AAA Championship at the Turtle Monday. He finished in a tie for 14th place in the Central League Championship at Turtle Creek with an 81 Sept. 22nd to qualify for districts.
Chase Dillman of Gilbertsville made birdies at the 11th and 13th holes and had seven pars on his scorecard as he finished in third place with an 80.
Dylan Henry of Ambler took fourth place with an 81, Brady Conlon of Villanova was fifth with an 85 and Brent Glah, another entry from Ambler, was sixth with an 86. A couple of Garnet Valley guys, Benjamin Mayer and Michael Liu, accounted for the next two spots on the leaderboard, Mayer finishing in seventh place with an 87 and Liu taking eighth with an 88.
Alex Topping of Philadelphia, Seiji Sako of Wynnewood and Marcus Smith of Gilbertsville rounded out the top 10 among the younger guys as each finished in a tie for ninth place with a 90.
Jillian Burks of Paoli captured a victory in the girls 13-to-15 division as she made 10 pars on her way to a solid 80. Burks finished in fifth place in the Girls 10-11 division in the Drive, Chip & Putt National Finals to kick off Masters week at Augusta National Golf Club.
It was the second straight Saturday that Burks earned a Philly Junior Tour win as she claimed the top spot in last week's stop at Tanglewood Manor Golf Club in Quarryville.
Katherine Liu of Moorestown, N.J. rounded out the 13-to-15 division field as she made a birdie on the 17th hole and had seven pars on her scorecard to earn runnerup honors with an 86.
Quin Zuegner of New Hope bested the field of nine-holers as he made birdies at the second and seventh holes and had four pars on his card on his way to a 1-over 36.
Anthony Proud of Stroudsburg and Jason Mack of Delaware Water Gap shared second place as each posted a 5-over 40 to finish four shots behind Zuegner. Proud made back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes and had three pars on his card. Mack started his round with four straight pars and finished with six pars in his round.
Lawson Leeper of York took fourth place with a 41, Andrew Carroccio of Newtown Square was fifth with a 44, Vyom Shukla of Berwyn was sixth with a 45 and Sebastian Park of Lansdale was seventh with a 48.
Ryan Kelly of Harleysville finished in eighth place with a 49, Gus Wolfe of Downingtown was ninth with a 50 and Jake Julian of Malvern rounded out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division, ending up alone in 10th place with a 52.
