John Curran of Malvern greeted the arrival of fall-like temperatures Sunday by carding a solid 5-over-par 77 at Lebanon Country Club to claim a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory.
Curran made birdies on the seventh and 15th holes and had 10 pars on his scorecard on his way to the top of the 13-to-15 division leaderboard. He toured the incoming nine at Lebanon in 1-over 37.
Colton Orris of Hershey had six pars as he earned runnerup honors with a 90. Owen Grimes of Malvern was another shot behind Orris in third place with a 91 that featured four pars, two on each side.
Justin Edwards of Northampton rounded out the 13-to-15 division field as he finished in fourth place with a 97.
Owen Wisner of Reading put together a solid 6-over 78 to capture top honors in the 16-to-18 division. Wisner made a birdie at the second hole and had 11 pars on his scorecard, including eight straight from the third through the 10th holes.
Athen Sachar of York made a birdie at the seventh hole and had seven pars as he finished four shots behind Wisner in second place with an 82. Sachar was coming off a victory in the rain-shortened Philly Junior Tour stop Saturday at Foxchase Golf Club. Adrian Jordan of Lawrenceville, N.J. made birdies at the sixth, 10th and 11th holes and had four pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Sachar in third place with an 83.
Sam Witmiller of Selinsgrove and Joseph Sabol of State College shared fourth place, each posting an 86.
Grey Conta of Hummelstown took sixth place with an 89, Michael Felty, another Selinsgrove entry, was seventh with a 93 and Leighton Smithwick of Boalsburg rounded out the 16-to-18 division field as he finished eighth with a 97.
Kyla Quimby of West Lawn topped a small, but competitive field in the girls 13-to-15 division as she posted a 108. Quimby was coming off a third-place finish in Saturday’s Philly Junior Tour stop at Foxchase.
Hannah Kopac of State College finished a shot behind Quimby in second place with a 109 and it was just two more shots back to Caitlyn Monestere of Downingtown as she was alone in third with a 111. Monestere had three pars on Lebanon’s outgoing nine.
Lawson Leeper of York bested the field of nine-holers as he had five pars on his scorecard on his way to a 6-over 42. Maybe more impressive when you call up Leeper’s scorecard is the number of Philly Junior Tour starts he’s made in 2021. That would be 43. Not sure if that includes some starts late in 2020, but regardless, but the kid gets out and competes a lot and York is at the western edge of the Philly Junior Tour’s reach so somebody is putting some miles on the odometer getting Leeper out to all those events.
Holden Sparks of Nazareth and Callen Edmonston of Thurmont, Md. shared second place, finishing a shot behind Leeper as each signed for a 43. Sparks started strong with pars at the first, second and fourth holes. Edmonston also had three pars on his scorecard.
Jason Mack of Delaware Water Gap took fourth place with a 45, Alex DiGiacinto, another Nazareth entry, was fifth with a 50 and the trio of Vyom Shukla of Berwyn, Tara Griscavage of Mechanicsburg and Corinne McReynolds of Wayne finished in a tie for sixth, each posting a 52.
Ty Sheftic of Blue Bell finished in ninth place with a 53 and Brady Ward of King of Prussia rounded out the coed 12-and-under division as he finished 10th with a 59.
