Sun shines at The Shore Club with a 78 to claim a Philly Junior Tour victory

 

   Ryan Sun of Morganville, N.J. made it two straight Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour wins as his 6-over-par 78 Saturday at The Shore Club in Cape May Court House, N.J. was the best score of the day and gave him the top spot in the 13-to-15 division.

   Sun, coming off a victory in a Philly Junior Tour stop last weekend at Pitman Golf Course, had a steady round that featured 12 pars on a perfect November day for golf.

   Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. and Daniel Herzchel of Linwood, N.J. finished a shot behind Sun in a tie for second place, each carding a 7-over 79.

   Sieben made birdies on the first, seventh and 15th holes and had eight pars on his scorecard. Herzchel jump-started his round with an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole, added a birdie at 16 and had eight pars on his card.

   Keller Tannehill of Linwood took fourth place with an 82, Patrick Hiltner of Northfield, N.J. and Archmere Academy sophomore Michael Liu of Garnet Valley shared fifth, each recording an 84, Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. was seventh with an 87 and Joseph Chachkin of Jenkintown was eighth with a 91.

   Trevor Hackett, another Northfield, N.J. guy, took ninth place with a 92 and Ben Conner, another Linwood, N.J. guy, rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished in 10th place with a 96.

   Quakertown senior Brady Gallagher led the way in the 16-to-18 division with an 8-over 80 that gave him a Philly Junor Tour victory.

   Gallagher made birdies on the back nine’s two par-5s, the 10th and 13th holes, made it two straight birdies with another one on 14, and had seven pars on his scorecard.

   Radnor senior Shaun Mazzalupi, who wrapped a standout scholastic career earlier this fall by earning a trip to the PIAA Class AAA Championship for a third straight year, and John Bollendorf of Sewell, N.J. shared runnerup honors as each finished three shots behind Gallagher in a tie for second place with an 83.

   Mazzalupi finished up with a birdie on the 18th hole and had seven pars on his card, including five pars in a row from the 12th through the 16th holes. Bollendorf made a birdie at the 13th hole and had eight pars on his card. Seven of those pars came in the last eight holes as Bollendorf toured The Shore Course’s incoming nine in even-par 36.

   Patrick O’Hara of Ocean City, N.J. took fourth place with an 85 and a couple of Williamston, N.J. guys, Matthew Daughtry and Gavin McCloskey, accounted for the next two spots on the leaderboard, Daughtry tallying an 88 to finish fifth and McCloskey recording a 90 to finish sixth.

   Dominic Polistina of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. and Joey Simonetti of Bellmawr, N.J. shared seventh place, each posting a 91, and Max Riviere of Philadelphia rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished ninth with a 113.

   Agnes Irwin sophomore Makayla Stone had the best score of the day among the girls, also coming out of the younger 13-to-15 division, with an 87.

   Watched Stone, a Garnet Valley resident, when she teed it up in the Inter-Ac League Championship last spring at French Creek Golf Club and she’s got game. Stone made a birdie at the 16th hole and had eight pars on her scorecard to claim a Philly Junior Tour victory at The Shore Club.

   Maria Benedetto of West Chester made a birdie on the 10th hole and had five pars on her card as she finished three shots behind Stone in second place with a 90.

   Michaela Ianieri of Ambler finished her round with a birdie at the 18th hole as she rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division, ending up in third place with a 105.

   Sophia DeSantis, who recently wrapped up a solid scholastic career at West Chester Rustin, was the lone entry in the 16-to-18 division and took the Philly Junior Tour win with a 94. DeSantis plans to join the program at Fairfield at the end of next summer.

   Lucas Solano of Vineland, N.J. made a birdie on the seventh hole and a par to close out his round at nine as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 6-over 42.

   David Padgett of Barnegat, N.J. made a birdie at the seventh hole and had two pars on his scorecard as he earned runnerup honors with a 46.

   David Gilman, playing close to his Cape May Court House, N.J. home, and Jameson Foreman of Somers Point, N.J. shared third place, each landing on 48. Gilman had three pars on his card while Foreman had two pars on his card.

   Bradan Boal of Woodbine, N.J. and Madison Keeley of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. shared fifth place, each posting a 60, and Chase Paxton of Wildwood, N.J. rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division, finishing seventh with a 61.
