Michael Liu, a sophomore at Archmere Academy, has been playing some solid golf this fall and his 2-over-par 72 at Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del. was the best score of the day Saturday, giving him a victory in the 13-to-15 division of a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop.
Liu, a Garnet Valley resident, made birdies at the third and 13 holes and was solid the rest of the way with 12 pars on his scorecard, including a string of eight straight pars from the fifth through the 12th holes.
Alexander Hall of Schwenksville got on a little par run of his own as he made seven straight pars from the 10th through the 16th holes, ending up with nine pars on his card overall, as he earned runnerup honors among the younger guys with a 79.
Andrew Brendlinger of Collegeville made a birdie on the fifth hole and had six pars on his card to finish in third place with an 84.
Brian Smyth of Springfield took fourth place with an 85, Luka Fedlukov of Downingtown was fifth with an 86, Evan Smith of Elkton, Md. was sixth with an 87 and Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. was seventh with an 88.
A couple of West Chester guys, Trey Barkman and Zach Raihall, shared eighth place, each posting an 89, and Yaejoon Wee of Chesterbrook rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished 10th with a 92.
Micheal Dignazio, a Tower Hill School senior from Wilmington, Del., and Jamie Ciesielka of Woolwich Township, N.J. finished in a tie atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division, each recording a 7-over 77.
Dignazio had 11 pars on his scorecard, eight of them while touring the incoming nine at Deerfield in 1-over 36, and Ciesielka made a birdie on the 16th hole and had 10 pars on his card.
Enrique Altmann of Mickleton, N.J. finished in third place with an 81.
Evan Gebhart of Camden Wyoming, Del. took fourth place with an 83, Brayden Tritsch of Medford, N.J. was fifth with an 84 and Boyertown junior Chase Dillman and Pierce Murphy of Ardmore finished in a tie for sixth, each tallying an 85.
Nicholas Heckman of Lincoln University and Davin Lysik of Wilmington, Del. shared eighth place, each carding an 86, and Austin Fulton of Carlisle rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 10th with an 88.
Mirai Kambayashi of Malvern continued her strong run of play recently as she had seven pars on her scorecard to claim a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division with an 84.
Upper Merion junior Alyssa Schuebel rounded out a short field among the older girls as she made a par on the fourth hole to finish in second place with a 114.
Megan Choi of Penn Valley made a birdie on the 11th hole and had two pars on her scorecard as she finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with a 93.
Stella Bernardi of Sewell, N.J. got it going on the incoming nine at Deerfield, making four pars in a solid 43 on her way to a 102 that gave her a runnerup finish.
Another member of Team Bernardi of Sewell, N.J., Lydia Bernardi, made pars on the second and 13th holes to round out the field in the 13-to-15 division, finishing in third place with a 117.
Taimoor Naseem of Sinking Spring bested the field of nine-holers as he had four pars on his scorecard on his way to a 5-over 40. It was Naseem’s sixth win of the season in the very competitive coed 12-and-under division.
The Sokol twins of Villanova, Henry Sokol and Jack Sokol, went 2-3, respectively, as Henry Sokol made three straight pars on the sixth, seventh and eighth holes on his way to a 43 that gave him runnerup honors and Jack Sokol took third with a 48.
Connor Masulis of Pottstown took fourth place with a 49, Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr and Wesley Guerin, playing close to his Newark, Del. home, shared fifth place, each recording a 54, and Lucas Shank of West Chester and Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. finished in a tie for seventh place, each tallying a 55.
Charlie Sears of Wilmington, Del. and Jaxson Refold of Bryn Mawr shared ninth place, each registering a 59, and Jasper Zhang of West Chester rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division as he finished 11th with a 64.
