Patrick O’Hara of Ocean City, N.J. finished in red figures with a 1-under-par 71 at Shore Gate Golf Club in Ocean View, N.J. as he earned a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division played in spectacular late October weather Saturday.
The Philly Junior Tour schedule seems to indicate that some Junior Golf Scoreboard points were up for grabs for those who also teed it up in Sunday’s stop at Cape May National Golf Club. Players who earn JGS points can gain some status on some other junior circuits, most notably the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA).
O’Hara got off to a great start with birdies at the third and sixth holes, went back-to-back with birdies at nine and 10 and added a fifth birdie at 16 and had nine pars on his scorecard in a sizzling tour of the par-72 Shore Gate layout.
It was eight shots back to Ryan Johnson of Pittsgrove, N.J. as he made a birdie at the sixth hole and had nine pars on his card to earn runnerup honors with a 7-over 79.
Luke Tappeiner of Northfield, N.J. made birdies at the sixth and ninth holes and had nine pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Ryan Johnson in third place with an 80.
Alex Topping of Philadelphia took fourth place with an 82, Chase Adomaitis of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. was fifth with an 83, Vaughn Soltys of Linwood, N.J. was sixth with a 90 and Sam Ritti, playing close to his Ocean View, N.J. home, was seventh with a 91.
Joey Simonetti of Bellmawr, N.J. took eighth place with a 93, Tyler Scheer of Bangor was ninth with a 94, Roman Johnson of Cape May Court House, N.J. was 10th with a 99 and Patrick McGonigle of Broomall rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 11th with a 112.
Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. made a birdie at the seventh hole, went back-to-back with birdies at the 13th and 14th holes and had nine pars on his scorecard, including four straight to close out his round, as he earned a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division with a 6-over 78.
It was a tight battle for the top spot among the younger guys as P.J. Foley of Northfield, N.J. and Archmere Academy sophomore Michael Liu, a Garnet Valley resident, shared second place, each ending up just a shot behind Sieben with a 7-over 79.
Foley had 13 pars on his card, including a run of seven straight to close out his round. Michael Liu made an eagle at the par-5 ninth hole and had 10 pars on his card.
Jason Piccoli of Berlin, N.J. took fourth place with an 81, Daniel Herzchel of Linwood, N.J. was fifth with an 82 and Patrick Hiltner, another of a strong group of players out of Northfield, N.J., and Jackson Bodony of Stafford Township, N.J. shared sixth, each recording an 83.
Zach Reihall of West Chester took eighth place with an 85, Colin Curvan of Wayne was ninth with an 89 and Dylan Gilchrist of Glen Ridge, N.J. and Trevor Hackett, another Northfield, N.J. guy, rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as they finished in a tie for 10th, each landing on 90.
The best score among the girls came out of the 13-to-15 division as Katherine Liu of Moorestown, N.J. claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory with an 81.
Katherine Liu, who has developed into a really solid player on the Philly Junior Tour, had 11 pars on her scorecard, making pars on 10 of her last 11 holes.
A couple of Lindwood, N.J. girls, Adrianna Kesic and Gabby Krachman, accounted for the next two spots on the leaderboard among the younger girls. Kesic made a par on the fifth hole as she earned runnerup honors with a 110. Krachman finished in third place with a 115.
Hazel Burgan of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished in fourth place with a 121.
Ava Williams of Brigantine, N.J. was the lone entry in the girls 16-to-18 division and she made a par on the third hole on her way to a 111.
Jack Metroka of Meadowbrook made six straight pars from the second through the seventh holes as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 6-over 42.
Jameson Foreman of Somers Point, N.J. made a par on the fourth hole as he finished in second place with a 46. Nicholas Margiotti of Chalfont had two pars on his card as he finished in third place with a 54.
David Gilman of Cape May Court House, N.J. took fourth place with a 55, Connor Clayton of Mays Landing, N.J. and Bradan Boal of Woodbine, N.J. shared fifth, each carding a 56, Chase Paxton of Wildwood, N.J. was seventh with a 59 and Carter Blair of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. was eighth with a 62.
William Broadbelt of Sewell, N.J. took ninth place with a 67 and Madison Keeley of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division as she finished in 10th place with a 69.
