Lower Merion sophomore Seiji Sako tuned up for the District One Class AAA Championship by claiming the top spot in the 13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Oct. 7th at Berkleigh Country Club in Reading with a 7-over-par79.
The win at Berkleigh helped propel Sako to a berth in the PIAA Class AAA Championship as he finished in a tie for seventh place with a 6-over 150 total at Turtle Creek Golf Course Tuesday, finishing up with a solid 1-over 73.
Sako made a birdie on the fourth hole and had 10 pars on his scorecard as he matched the low score of the day in the boys divisions to earn the victory while dodging the raindrops at Berkleigh. Not sure what the timing was for the Philly Junior Tour players last Saturday, but there’s a pretty good chance they encountered some wet weather at some point in their rounds.
Onyu Park of Blue Bell also made a birdie at the fourth hole and had eight pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors among the younger guys with an 81.
Charlie Sheehan of Lititz had nine pars on his card, finishing up with four straight pars, as he finished two shots behind Park in third place with an 83.

Sachin Blake, a former Conestoga standout, matched Sako for the low round of the day among the guys as his 79 gave him a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division. Blake made birdies on the seventh and 13th holes and eight pars on his scorecard.
Ryan Marsh of Coatesville rounded out a short field in the 16-to-18 division as he was the runnerup with a 105, a round that was highlighted by three pars.
Alaina Carson of Broomall made birdies at the eighth and 14th holes and had eight pars on her scorecard as she posted a solid 81 to finish atop the leaderboard in the girls 13-to-15 division.
Megan Choi of Penn Valley claimed runnerup honors in the division as she had seven pars on her card to finish five shots behind Carson with an 86.
Fortress Chryst of Wescosville rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she recorded a 113 to finish in third place.
It was a pretty memorable day for Jack Sokol of Villanova as his tee shot at the par-3 sixth hole at Berkleigh found the cup for a hole-in-one that enabled him to best the field of nine-holers with a 2-over 37.
In addition to his ace, Jack Sokol had five pars on his scorecard.
Taimoor Naseem of Sinking Spring and William Thorkelson of Bryn Mawr shared runnerup honors as each finished two shots behind Jack Sokol with a 4-over 39.
Naseem made a birdie at the second hole and had four pars on his card and Thorkelson made a birdie at five and had three pars on his card.
Liam Woznicki of Sugarloaf and Logan Turner of Berwyn shared fourth place, each signing for a 5-over 40, Jack Metroka of Meadowbrook was sixth with a 41 and Sam Whitehouse of Pottstown and Rayan Shah of Newtown ended up in a tie for seventh, each registering a 42.
