Colin McAskin invaded the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour from New York City and had the day’s best score, a 2-over-par 72, at Heidelberg Country Club in Bernville, Berks County to finish atop the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division in weather that turned windier and colder as the day wore on Saturday.
McAskin made a birdie at the 13th hole and had 14 pars on his scorecard, rattling off nine straight pars from the fourth through the 12th holes.
Archmere Academy sophomore Michael Liu made birdies at the third and 18th holes and had nine pars on his card as he claimed runnerup honors among the younger guys with a 7-over 77 that left him five shots behind McAlpin.
Avery O’Neill of Romansville and Trey Barkman of West Chester finished in a tie for third place, each landing on 79.
O’Neill made a birdie at the 10th hole and had 10 pars on his card, including a run of six straight pars from the second through the seventh holes. Barkman made birdies at the third, 10th and 18th holes and had six pars on his card.
Vyom Shukla of Berwyn took fifth place with an 84, Luke Fallon of Reading was sixth with an 85 and Sebastian Meyer of South Abington Township and Cameron Werder of Lititz finished in a tie for seventh, each posting an 87.
Winston Chew of Exton took ninth place with an 88 and Mason Stephan of Collegeville rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division, finishing in 10th place with a 92.
Michael Dignazio, a Tower Hill School senior, made birdies on the third and 17th holes and had nine pars on his scorecard, seven of them in a back-nine 36, as he earned a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division with a 6-over 76.
J.T. Kraynock of Reading made a birdie at the ninth hole and had 10 pars on his card, including five straight from the 11th through the 15th holes, to finish in second place among the older guys with a 78 that left him two shots behind Dignazio.
Tyler Scheer of Bangor had five pars on his card as he ended up in third place with an 87.
Will Walsh, a junior at Radnor High, took fourth place with an 89, James Ciccarelli of Danville was fifth with a 91, Nicholas Scala of Yardley was sixth with a 101 and Jayden Goodson of Philadelphia was seventh with a 102.
Jackson Shearer of Harrisburg rounded out the scoring in the 16-to-18 division as he finished in eighth place with a 107.
The best score among the girls also came out of the 13-to-15 division as Fortress Chryst of Wescosville had pars on the second and 18th holes on her way to a 103 that gave her a Philly Junior Tour victory.
Stella Bernardi of Sewell, N.J. rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division as she made a par on the second hole to finish in second place with a 107.
Sarah Doherty of King of Prussia was the lone entry in the 16-to-18 division and she parred the sixth hole on her way to a 122.
Taimoor Naseem of Sinking Spring made a birdie on the third hole and had six pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 1-over 35 for his fifth victory of the season.
Team Sokol of Villanova, twin brothers Jack and Henry Sokol, accounted for the next two spots on the leaderboard as Jack Sokol had five pars on his card on his way to a 5-over 40 that enabled him to finish in second place and Henry Sokol made a birdie on the second hole and had three pars on his card as he finished third with a 42.
Baylor Keim of Blue Bell took fourth place with a 47 and Kellam McCune rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division, finishing fifth with a 54.
