Boyertown junior Chase Dillman erupted for eight birdies on his way to a 1-under-par 69 at Spring Hollow Golf Club in East Vincent, Chester County Sept. 10th to capture a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division.
I was looping in the second round of qualifying for match play in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Stonewall’s North Course, not all that far from Spring Hollow that day. It rained a lot early in the morning and the wet weather returned late in the day, but there was a weather window under gray, threatening skies and the Philly Junior Tour kids completed their appointed rounds.
Dillman made birdies at the second, sixth, seventh and ninth holes on Spring Hollow’s outgoing nine and at 13, 14, 16 and 18 on the back nine and had five pars on his scorecard in getting it in in red figures for the round.
West Chester Rustin junior Nick Linkchorst made a birdie on the 16th hole and had nine pars on his card as he finished 10 shots behind Dillman in second place with a 79.
Jackson Shearer of Harrisburg and Noah Richardson of Malvern each finished a shot behind Linkchorst with an 80 to end up in a tie for third place.
Shearer made birdies on the sixth, eighth, 15th and 16th holes and had five pars on his card. Richardson made birdies on the 11th and 16th holes and had nine pars on his card.
Brandon Carrigan of Warrington took fifth place with a 91 and Ryan Marsh of Coatesville and Andrea Alaimo of Philadelphia rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division, each posting a 102 to finish in a tie for sixth.
Archmere Academy sophomore Michael Liu and Justin Marcus of Glenmoore shared the top spot in the 13-to-15 division as each posted a solid 3-over 73.
Liu made birdies on the fifth, 10th and 16th holes and had 10 pars on his scorecard while Marcus recorded back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes and had 11 pars on his card.
Christopher Mark Parrish of Woolwich Township, N.J. finished a shot behind Liu and Marcus in third place with a 4-over 74 as he made birdies on the third, sixth and 14th holes and had 10 pars on his card, seven of them on the incoming nine at Spring Hollow, which he toured in even-par 35.
Lower Merion sophomore Seiji Sako took fourth place with a 77, Anderson Brexler of Doylestown was fifth with an 83 and Mason Stephan of Collegeville, Joshua Kriegel of Lawrenceville, N.J. and John Gavaghan of Ambler finished in a tie for sixth, each landing on 87.
Reid Tornetta of Collegeville took ninth place with an 88 and Vyom Shukla of Berwyn rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division, finishing in 10th with an 89.
Corinne McReynolds of Wayne has been playing solid golf all summer and had 10 pars on her scorecard on her way to an 80 that gave her a victory in the 13-to-15 division.
Megan Choi of Penn Valley rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division as she made a birdie on the 11th hole and had three pars on her card to finish in second place with a 97.
Henry Sokol of Villanova had eight pars and a bogey on his scorecard as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 1-over 36.
William Thorkelson of Bryn Mawr had six pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with a 3-over 38. Logan Turner of Berwyn had four pars on his card as he finished in third place with a 5-over 40.
Rayan Shah of Newtown took fourth place with a 41, Taimoor Naseem of Sinking Spring was fifth with a 42 and the trio of Jack Sokol, Henry Sokol’s twin brother, Xunnan Dang of Newtown Square and Nathan Lobo of Collegeville finished in a tie for sixth, each tallying a 43.
Rounding out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division were Ethan Meersman of Fort Washington and Jake Julian of Malvern as they finished in a tie for ninth place, each registering a 44.
