Matthew Hurchalla of Wallingford got hot on the back nine at Golden Pheasant Golf Club in Lumberton, N.J. as he battled rainy conditions Sunday to claim a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division.
Hurchalla made a birdie on the third hole and then ripped off birdies at 14, 17 and 18 on the incoming nine at Golden Pheasant and had nine pars on his scorecard on his way to a 1-over-par 73.
Jake Johnson of Wayne had a steady round that featured 13 pars as he earned runnerup honors with a 5-over 77, four shots behind Hurchalla. Kevin Hochenberger of Stockton, N.J. made a birdie on the 10th hole and had nine pars on his card on his way to an 80 that left him in third place.
Rounding out the field in the 16-to-18 division was Jimmy Campbell of Wilmington, Del. as he finished in fourth place with a 93.
Matthew Duphorn of Erial, N.J. captured the victory in the 13-to-15 division as he had the tiebreaker edge on Liam Crowley of Wayne after each posted a solid 3-over 75.
Duphorn made a birdie on the second hole and had 14 pars on his scorecard, finishing his round with seven straight pars from 12 through 18.
Crowley matched Duphorn’s birdie at the second hole and had 13 pars on his card, including a run of eight straight from the fifth through the 12th holes.
Quin Zuegner of New Hope, Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. and Boyertown sophomore Chase Dillman finished in a tie for third place, each ending up a shot behind Duphorn and Crowley with a 4-over 76.
Zuegner made birdies on the second, fifth and 14th holes and had eight pars on his card. Sieben made birdies at the first, third and 14th holes and also had eight pars on his card. Dillman made birdies on the first, sixth and 14th holes and had nine pars on his card, including a streak of sixth straight from seven through 12.
Ben Mayer of Garnet Valley took sixth place with a 79, Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. was seventh with an 82 and Paul Reilly of West Creek, N.J. and Anthony Proud of Stroudsburg shared eighth, each signing for an 83.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division was Noah Taylor of Columbus, N.J. as he finished alone in 10th place with an 87.
The best score among the girls at Golden Pheasant emerged from the 13-to-15 division as Katherine Lee of Mt. Laurel, N.J. made a birdie at the 17th hole and had 10 pars on her scorecard while earning her first Philly Junior Tour victory with an 81.
Lee had to outduel Katherine Liu of Moorestown, N.J. as Liu made birdies at the first and 13th holes and had six pars on her card as she earned runnerup honors with an 83. Another Moorestown gal, Lauren Patullo, made a birdie on the 14th hole and had six pars as she finished in third place with an 85.
Kasey O’Brien of Linwood, N.J. took fourth place with a 94 and Mariana Walker of Richboro rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished fifth with a 102.
Sehyr Singh made it a sweep of the girls divisions for Mt. Laurel players as she had three pars on her scorecard on her way to a 98 that gave her a victory in the 16-to-18 division.
Audrey Ruggieri of Cherry Hill, N.J. made a birdie on the 15th hole and had two pars on her card as she finished in second place with a 105. Rounding out the field in the 16-to-18 division was Jiayin Ou of Pottstown as she made a birdie on the 17th hole and finished in third place with a 118.
Dane Mohap of Nazareth continued his summer-long roll as he had the tiebreaker edge on Anthony Primo of Marlton, N.J. and Trebor Melendez of Vineland, N.J. to claim the top spot among a competitive group of nine-holers as each carded a solid 1-over 37.
Mohap made a birdie on the first hole and rattled off six straight pars to finish out his round.
Primo had a steady round with eight pars on his scorecard, including six in a row to begin his round, as he was awarded second place via the tiebreaker. Melendez made birdies on the first and eighth holes and had four pars on his card as he settled for third place.
Preston Minio of Landsale took fourth place with a 39, Justin Stickel of Churchville was fifth with a 41 and a couple of Moorestown, N.J. entries, Chloe Donohue and Jack Forstein, shared sixth, each posting a 45.
Jason Leekley, another Moorestown, N.J. entry, and Megan Choi of Penn Valley finished in a tie for eighth place, each landing on 47, and David Padgett of Barnegat, N.J. rounded out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division as he finished in 10th place with a 51.
